Former resident. Dominican University of California alum. Occasional visitor whenever nostalgia calls, or in this case, whenever Red Rooster Brick Oven starts firing up pizza in San Rafael.

And let me tell you, this place is not just “good for Marin.” It is one of those spots that gives you a reason to make plans around the food.

Brick oven pizza with range. Drinks that balance edge and class. A menu deep enough for a business lunch, date night, family dinner, takeout run, or that rare family date night where everybody wins.

Classic? They have it. Creative? They have that too. Hungry but indecisive? They built the menu for you.

So no, you do not need a special occasion to pull up to Red Rooster.

We spent the morning exploring Sausalito before heading to Red Rooster Brick Oven in San Rafael, and it ended up being so much more than just a great meal.

The brick oven pizza, fresh Italian dishes, and delicious drinks were amazing, but what truly stood out was the hospitality. We had such a lovely conversation with the owners, and seeing them greet returning guests by name and already know their orders showed how much they genuinely care about the people who walk through their doors.

It’s places like this that remind me food is about more than nutrition, it’s about connection, community, and making memories with the people you love.

in downtown San Rafael is the kind of cozy neighborhood spot you go to for date night, birthdays, family dinners, or just because you’re craving pizza, pasta, and dessert all in one meal 🍷✨
this place seriously has a little bit of everything, and every dish felt like comfort food done right 🙌
