It was the day that Michael Jackson passed away, music in the plaza was happening and we served our first noodle bowl after we opened the noodle house at "mee heng low". No advertisement or social media posts just unlocked the door. Admittedly I did not prep a lot of food and we sold out within two hours, only had five item on the blackboard menu. Twice cooked pork with cabbage and flat noodles #2, this was a dish my mum would make when money was scarce, minus the pork. Thanks mum.

What started as a dream many years ago and now the last day of the noodle house i would like to say thank you to all of the loyal fans, friends and family that has made this journey possible. From the noodle shack of Rhythm Cafe on farmers market to the home of the Gin family the path has taken many turns, stops and starts. Which I may post about in the future. Thank you to my son Russell for holding the fort down and thank you to my son Elliott for having the sence to stay out of the hospitality industry. So at the beginning of the week I wrote out this whole spiel about how we were going to close the restaurant (which we are). I intended to post it on Monday but then the circumstances regarding the sale of the building changed again which put me in a weird spot. At this point I’ve already secured another job and made all the plans to go through with it. Life is funny like that. Anyways, I’ll leave what I had to say previously for you to read but know that things are different now but I’m still going to close.

Yes, the rumors are true. Mee Heng Low Noodle House is closing for good. Our last day of service will the 29th. If you weren’t already aware the building has been for sale for over a year. There have been many potential buyers most of whom have had plans that haven’t been conducive to continuing business as Mee Heng Low as we currently know it. There are a thousand reasons to close a restaurant right now. Ultimately though, the eventual impending sale of the building leaves me with an uncertain future. I could double down over and over again but eventually this building will sell and require major renovations which will put us out of work for an extended period of time anyways. I’ve had big plans for the business but can’t move forward with them without knowing what the future holds. There will always be a shoulda woulda coulda but ultimately I think it all ends the same.

17 years of business is nothing to sneeze at. I’ve worked on and off at this restaurant longer than my father at this point and longer than I lived in my childhood home. Unfortunately I can’t run this business forever nor do I have the progeny to pass it on to. Right now I just need a more certain future. Who knows, maybe in a few years we see a new and reimagined Mee Heng Low for the next generation. I wish them and you good fortune.✌️
