The US Administration has announced updated tariff rates, the majority of which will take effect as of 12:01 a.m. ET on August 7, 2025.

Brazil’s new rate of 50% will take effect as of 12:01 a.m. ET on August 6, 2025.

We continue to watch these developments closely, and will communicate any changes as they occur. If you have questions about your shipments with Atlantic Specialty, please reach out to your trader to discuss specifics.

We received a warm welcome from our sister office in El Salvador last week. Despite challenges including labor shortages, unseasonable rains, and a volatile market, the harvest is concluding strong and exhibiting excellent, consistent quality.

As 2024 comes to a close, we want to share a special message of gratitude to Tina Berard, as she retires from ECOM Atlantic Specialty after an outstanding career in coffee.

Tina began her work in specialty coffee at her father’s importing business in the 1980s. She expanded that work in 1996 as a co-founder of Atlantic Specialty Coffee, the first specialty importing office for the .trading Coffee Group.

She is a pioneer in the industry, always championing sustainability and the work of women through her involvement with and . She has also served in various capacities at the , , and .

Our East Coast trade team was pleased to cup the Top 10 coffees in this year’s 10th Annual March Flower Espírito Santo Microlots Contest hosted by fellow .trading office, Bourbon Specialty Coffees.

This contest aims to highlight the unique cup qualities of coffees in the southern Espírito Santo state of Brazil. In this region, the coffee flower blossoming can happen through March due to its specific microclimates, and harvest takes place through December.

This year’s auction begins January 29 and ends January 31.

You may have noticed that importers are keeping fewer coffees in spot inventory.* This is because the steady increase in interest & storage rates has in turn caused the cost of carrying inventory to rise. We are working with our customers to encourage as much pre-booking of inventory as possible to ensure volume and quality needs are met. This looks different for each roaster, but it begins with forecasting and committing to coffees pre-shipment. Talk to your trader about SAS Arrival** contracts so you can feel secure in making these bookings.
