What a day in Portola Valley!

Our Andy's Cafe team popped up at Common Grounds yesterday and served over 100 cups to the community. From the first pour to the last, the line kept coming, and the energy never dropped.
As Patty put it, the community is "chomping at the bit to have a gourmet coffee experience in the area and loved having this teaser."

For those who don't know us yet: Andy's Cafe is a nonprofit coffee shop staffed by neurodivergent young adults. A crew member brews, serves, and rings up every cup while building real job skills and real confidence. When you drink our coffee, you're not just getting a great cup; you're part of someone's pathway to employment.

What our crew took away from yesterday: serving a brand new community, at volume, in an unfamiliar space. Read the room, keep the line moving, and handle the rush with a smile. That's real-world experience you can't teach in a classroom.

And here's why it matters so much. Adults with developmental disabilities face unemployment rates far above the general population, not because they can't work, but because they rarely get the chance. Every pop-up, every shift, and every new community we serve opens another door.

These are capable, hardworking young adults who just need someone to say yes.

The feedback yesterday was overwhelmingly positive. Guests told us the coffee rivaled their favorite Bay Area shops, and more than a few asked when we're coming back.

This teaser might just be the start of something permanent in Portola Valley. Stay tuned.

Our dedicated baristas work hard alongside their job coaches to provide excellent service to the Board Members of Evergreen Valley College during their meeting.

We are proud to celebrate neurodiversity in the workplace and the many strengths, talents, and perspectives that neurodivergent individuals bring to their jobs and communities. Through meaningful employment, our baristas are building valuable workplace skills, gaining confidence, and showing that with the right support and opportunities, everyone can thrive.

Yesterday, May 31, 2026, our founder, Tony Lam, hosted his school board campaign event at one of a restaurant. The event was made even more special by the incredible team from Andy’s Cafe, who prepared and served drinks for attendees.

Tony is passionate about creating opportunities for adults on the autism spectrum and believes that, when given the chance, they can showcase their talents, dedication, and strong work ethic.

Yesterday, on Sunday 5/17/26, Andy's Cafe catered at the Neurodiversity Event at the Goodwill of Silicon Valley Headquarters, hosted by The Rotary Club of San Jose, where our employees got to meet Andy himself, who founder Tony Lam named the cafe after. We also got to see so many different artwork created by many neurodivergent individuals.
