We will be closed Friday, January 30th in solidarity with and support of our friends in Minnesota and across the nation who are being terrorized and torn apart by ICE THUGS. Closing on a Friday is not easy as a small business owner but now more than ever we need our voices and actions to be heard across the nation. We believe in love and the transformative power of community solidarity. ✊🏽

We’re excited to announce our next show, a photography exhibit presented and beautifully curated by .

Chris Buck’s Chris Bucks is a series inspired by a friendly note commercial photographer Chris Buck received in 2000, shortly after setting up his website utilizing his first and last name. The email was from a Georgian-era furniture dealer in Kent, UK...named Chris Buck. They connected right away and so began this namesake photo project.
From 2000 until 2018, Buck sought out and photographed all the namesakes that he could track down. In this parallel universe there was a Chris Buck studying philosophy, a farmer, a detective, and even a country-reggae band who shared his name. Some of the portraits of his doppelgängers give a genuine glimpse into the character of the sitter, but the best let you peer into his.

The exhibit at Cafe Alma features 14 portraits from the namesake series—including San Francisco’s Urban Forester Chris Buck, who lives right here in Bayview Hunters Point. The exhibit was curated and produced by Sarah Stangle, Urban Forester Chris Buck’s partner and creative collaborator of 30+ years.

is a New York-based photographer notable for his distinctive style: conceptual, irreverent, and intimate. His current editorial clients include The New Yorker, The Atlantic, and The New York Times Magazine, while he’s best known for his pictures of the famous, including four US presidents, Jay-Z, and Grumpy Cat.
