Maruya Since 2013, Maruya was one of the first Japanese Sushi Ya to offer omakase in the Bay Area. In 2013, Maruya opened in San Francisco's Mission District.

During these uncertain times, Maruya continues to adapt through its evolving menu: from sushi to Japanese inspired bento box as well as vegetarian items. It was one of the first restaurants in the district to offer a truly Edomae style sushi with its sleek sushi bar counter. With Chef Akifusa Tonai as the executive chef, his food presentation centers on sushi kaiseki. The menu are well-planned and

it changes every few days. The fish are curated and most of the fish originate from Tsukiji Market, Tokyo, JPN.

Maruya has opened its back patio limited seating. Despite the chance of rain, many couples were able to celebrate Valentine's Day in 2021. Many of the guests visited Maruya for the first time. When asked how they found discovered Maruya, it's one of the few omakase restaurants that has a private patio.
