OPENED IN 1907

The Connecticut Yankee is the latest addition to the Pour Guys’ list of classic San Francisco bars. The Yankee was built virtually by hand by the Salvotti family in 1907, and has been a local institution for everyone from our ditch diggers to the city mayor ever since. The place is steeped in rich history – from housing a bootleg operation and speakeasy during Prohibition, to servi

ng as a favorite spot for local artists and the former art director of Rolling Stone magazine in the 70s – the Yankee is truly a San Francisco gem. The Pour Guys took over in 2015, with a commitment to maintaining the bar’s grit and old school charm while integrating calculated changes typical of the team, such as a revamped food program. The Connecticut Yankee is sure to remain a favorite for locals, while becoming a go-to for new visitors seeking great food and an authentic San Francisco vibe.

From 1947 to 1971, California prohibited women from bartending—big mistake. On May 27, 1971, the California Supreme Court struck down the ban. This year marks the 55th anniversary of women being legally allowed to bartend in California. Legacy bar Horseshoe Tavern is spearheading a citywide celebration on May 27, 2026. Visit a participating bar that day to support the female bar owners, bartenders, and industry partners who make SF’s nightlife what it is.

Golden hour through the beer glass.
Crispy fried chicken stacked hot, sharp slaw cutting through every bite, and the kind of sandwich that disappears faster than your first pint at happy hour.

Connecticut Yankee keeps the San Francisco pub food game delicious.
