PoitĂ­n , our national spirit that predates wh***ey. First banned by the British crown in 1661 this spirit made from water, time and whatever crops were available is possibly one of the most defiant spirits of them all.
This final month of summer we launch into some drinks made with defiance and in ode to the late, great Manchán Magan - Irish folklore . Mad March hare Poitín, spiced pear, bitter, dandelion tonic, citrus, egg white make up the mighty “Macnas” . The word translates to joyful abandonment, high spirits, frolicking but we love the example that Manchan gives us, a young calf bursting out of confinement and running wildly with uncontainable life and happiness.
