“Chiguru tegiyodu” (ಚಿಗುರು ತೆಗೆಯುವುದು)
Just like any other tree, the coffee tree also wants to grow tall, with new shoots looking towards sun. But tall trees make it difficult to pick the cherries from them.
Enter “Chiguru tegiyodu” (ಚಿಗುರು ತೆಗೆಯುವುದು).
The practice of Carefully pruning the new shoots to encourage side branching. This is done usually once before the rainy season and then one more time after the rain is over. Drooping branches and short trees are perfect during the plucking season.
