Fausto Romo has been a coffee producer for 25 years. His farm, La Carolina, was originally a dairy farm but Fausto converted the farm to special coffee production after his uncle introduced him to quality coffee. The farm is located in the department of Picincha, north of Quito, with an elevation of approximately 1400 meters and comprises about five hectares.
This is a 100% washed Sidra microlot!

In memoriam: Goodbye Travelpro suitcase. I bought this little guy around 2007 at the Travel Store in Pacific Beach and it has been with me on probably 40 of my well-over 50 sourcing trips. It was with me on El Camino de la Muerte in Bolivia, and traveled with me across Sumatra in search of coffee. It survived a rugged camping trip in East Harar and I dragged it for about 100 yards across a dirt boarder crossing from Kenya into Uganda. It never let me down. Not once. 1000s of miles, many countries and some odd hotels later, not a stitch unstitched, not a zipper broken, not a hole in the fabric. It was usually the right size for an overhead compartment and the color was just unique enough to easily identify on a turnstile. Sadly, a wheel cracked last year and travelpro no longer makes replacement wheels for this model. I tried a couple off-brand replacements but they kept failing so it is time to say farewell. So long little buddy. You were a champion.

From Sidama, Ethiopia via Alo Coffee , a traditional natural grown at ultra-high elevation.
This 74158 heirloom varietal was harvested at over 2400 meters and dry-processed under exacting standards. In the cup, rapberries, lemon zest, and red grape.
We scored 30 kilos of this special coffee— only 300 kilos of this lot were imported into the US!

COMING SOON! New coffee from Ethiopia via Alo Coffee

Tamiru Tadesse founded Alo coffee with the goal of supporting small Ethiopian farmers who were growing exceptional coffee. Coffees from Alo have grown in stature in recent years because of their exceptional cherry processing quality control and incredible cup character.

We have two lots we are preparing to release very soon.
Both are grown at ultra-high elevation 2400-2500 meter.

Thanks to Diego and Nathan for joining in on some awesome roasting sessions yesterday on the Giesen Roasting Solutions W1. Diego owns Bien Hecho Coffee Stand . Instead of buying coffee wholesale, Diego wants to start roasting his own coffee—a wise move!
Nathan Nathan has been roasting for awhile — he took our Introduction to Coffee Roasting class several months ago but booked a private class to refine his roasting protocols and learn some new techniques.
