News + Menus!
Dear Friends,
Deirdre sent me a picture of a fun and smiley group who had come to Little Lion to celebrate a combined birthday party. My first thought was, “dang, I wish there was a just a bit more room at Little Lion to accommodate gatherings like this.” But then, I was flooded with memories of all the wonderful times my family, including not only my parents and siblings, but also aunts, uncles, and a boatload of cousins crammed into our grandparents’ small farmhouse for dinner when I was little. Or the many, many times the girls’ grandparents, Don and Arlene, invited our own large family, as well as all of their friends, and half the neighborhood over for holidays at their O.B. home. These were the kind of gatherings where you had to hold in your elbows while you were eating, because the person in the chair next to you was about 2.5 inches away. It was the kind of gathering where, if you were a kid, you’d loudly play double Chopsticks with your cousin on the piano as long as you could get away with it. The kind of gathering where the evening started out noisy, but then quieted down as the adults’ conversation turned to more serious topics. The kind of gathering where, if you were that Chopsticks-playing kid, you’d finally wear yourself out from all the fun and a full tummy so you’d have to find a corner to curl up in, and then you would be lulled to sleep by the softened voices and the clinking of silverware and glasses.
And, I must say, the kitchen deserves credit for preparing the good food that makes people want to come to Little Lion for celebrations, but the front of house staff really knows how to keep it fun for these large groups. Champagne shots anyone?
Happy Birthday Erin and Amanda. We hear you got matching tattoos of the Methuselah Tree after a visit to see it. And then you came to Little Lion! Pretty special, that.
So friends, consider taking a page from Erin and Amanda’s book and come to Little Lion next time you want to celebrate a birthday, or a holiday*, or a tattoo even with all your buddies. (You do have to plan ahead a bit and let us know when you want to come—it takes the staff a minute to play Tetris with the tables to get you all seated.)
Now, if only we could fit a piano into the dining room.
That’s our news for this week. Hope to see you soon!
Gratefully yours,
The Little Lions
(and Mom)
*Special note: You won’t be able to celebrate the 4th of July with us, alas because Little Lion will be closed
