We are a specialty coffee company born in Encanto, in San Diego's Promise Zone. We are Tommy and Daneyel Walker, two founders who built The Mental Bar to be a place for coffee, community, and mental clarity in a neighborhood that deserves excellence. Tommy is a US Navy veteran. Daneyel runs operations and holds this thing together. Together we built The Mental Bar to represent Black-owned, woman-owned, community-rooted business at the highest level of craft and care. Follow along for coffee stories, community moments, catering behind-the-scenes, and the ongoing work of building something that lasts. When you show up here, you are part of the family. Our coffee lives at select San Diego hospitality partners. Our home base at 6325 Imperial Avenue is now home to private events, Daneyel's catering, hospitality training, and Coffee Company work.

On September 19, we’re opening up the space at The Mental Bar for another Open Mic Night and inviting artists and creatives to come share what they do.

Take the mic, perform, show your art or simply come through to support the people sharing their creativity. Whether you’re trying something new, working on your craft or looking for a community that appreciates creativity in all its forms, there’s a place for you here.

And if you’re feeling inspired, you can create something of your own with canvas painting for $25 or vinyl painting for $35.

August was about community, creativity, and bringing people together. 🤍

Throughout the month, we partnered with Brandon Flowers and the Garten Network to showcase local artists and their original work, connect creatives, and create space for the community to come together with live music, painting experiences, and plenty of TMB burgers along the way. 🎨🎶🍔

We also had a few favorites of our own. 🥥
Coconut Paradise was our Drink of the Month, while the TMB Turkey Sandwich took the spotlight as our Food of the Month. You can still find it on our catering menu.

August also brought a new chapter for The Mental Bar. We’re now open Monday–Sunday, 8am–1pm, with our new grab & go format serving savory treats alongside your favorite coffee. ☕️

And September? We’re already getting ready. 🍂A new fall menu, more ways to connect, and more reasons to make The Mental Bar your third place.
