We are a neighborhood bar. It’s always seemed obvious to me we ought to participate in important moments - debates, states of the union, all of it.

I’ve never been so dang happy to say let’s get shoulder to shoulder and watch the election returns 11/3/2026 … it’ll be either medicine or a death knell either one, but it’ll be better together, that’s for sure.

In general, the years go by in this place way faster than is reasonable. Add a maelstrom of chaos and they’re fu***ng lightning.

Less than two weeks, we turn the calendar, and times like these that’s no small feat.

I’ve been in these four walls long enough to know for certain the following two truths: if we f**k up, it’s on me, and if we get the bright light of sunshine, it is entirely, utterly, completely because of these fine humans who put their own selves aside day after day, and smile so bright it could cause a commotion, for all of you who darken our door.

So, if you’ve had a moment here, or a lot, come down here and help me dump love and gratitude and deep thanks on these people. They’ve put this place on their backs this year and muscled it through, and that’s way far from nothing.

Thursday. 10/29. 17 years in the best fu***ng neighborhood in this town. Let’s have a b**r about it. Doors at 5pm.

Well the picture doesn’t quite fit but all the pertinent information is there and I can’t take all this formatting bu****it too seriously on a day like today.

The blistering heat isn’t here, my thighs aren’t stuck together, and it’s not raining, either, the sky looks washed clean and I’ve got more energy than full throttle or f**k it either one.

Jerich has added another three to the menu, closer to his entirely, and they’re fu***ng goooooood … you totally should.

Finally feels like October in SD, but it won’t feel nearly so good without you. Come down here, let’s Monday together, it’ll be just the fu***ng thing.

Can’t believe we’re a couple weeks away from turning the page on another year of the second best thing I’ve ever been a part of in my life, second only to my son.

Some years are pure joy to celebrate, some are cause for both joy and a pause, to appreciate what moment these incredible people who serve here have managed to meet - this one falls into the second category.

These aren’t easy times for any small business, and I am nearly in awe of what these folks have pulled off … you just couldn’t imagine the grit and will and discipline and tireless commitment to accountability and flexibility they’ve delivered these past 365. I am possessed of admiration and respect both for each and every one of them.

This anniversary belongs to them, as always, but this year a little more. They’ve stood on constantly shifting sands, and they’ve never flinched or lost their aim, and I can’t even hardly stand how good it feels to get to stand beside them.

I hope you’ll come by Thursday, 10/29, and raise a glass with them, for them. They are truly some of the brightest lights I’ve ever witnessed, and I’d like nothing. Ore than to pack this house for an evening, hold them up, give them love, and smiles, and the community they’ve delivered for all of us for the past year.

A collective thank you, a respite for the coming year, and acknowledgment and celebration for the one they’ve just put behind them. Let’s get shoulder to shoulder and dump laughter on them, shine a bright light back at them. I can’t wait to see you there. ***ngpeople

Here we are, less than a month out from the possibility of hope, optimism, a return of and to humanity, humane behavior, nothing left for it but to vote - and for the love of all things good and reasonable … go vote. For whoever. Or whatever. But fu***ng vote.

And when you’re done, let’s watch the returns together. Election Watch Party, CP, 11.3.2026. I suspect it’s going to be one of those days we will all remember where we were, and what we were doing.

Let’s do it together. Together seems to me the one thing we’ve always got, and why I love this place the way I do.

I effing love New Cocktail Menu Day, it’s a holiday here for sure, and not just because tasting and thinking about ten new cocktails seven different times adds up to … well, a holiday atmosphere.

Adele, our personal National Treasure, has once again outdone herself - truly, everything she does is each one better than the last - with this menu, I am unspeakably proud to put it in front of you, I’m not sure how we got so lucky with Adele Stratton, but she took my rather vague instruction of “make them elegant but not fussy” and stacked dimes on it. Every one of these is a proper banger, and I think you totally should.

For a limited time, or volume, rather, she even took the last few bottles of a gin I barrel aged 12 years ago and stacked so much goodness on top of it I could cry. I’ve been holding onto them for no reason I can name, and I’m flat out thrilled with the cocktail she built around the few bottles we have in reserve, you definitely totally should.

Happy Monday, people, come down here … there’s a goofy smile at the end of every one of these, I’m sure of it.

Chef Jerich is slowly putting his stamp on the kitchen, and the kitchen seems to like it, and I do too, and when you meet him you’ll know why immediately. Some people smile from down inside, and that’s Jerich.

New tonight, chicken pot pie, and this, a roasted vegetable salad: caramelized Brussels sprouts, carrots, sweet potatoes, beets, pomegranate seeds, feta cheese and a hot honey drizzle.

Yep. Happy Monday. Smash burgers and this too. You totally fu***ng should.

Well something new and something old, brother Jerich Hiatt has moved from behind the bar to in front of the line, and we’re fu***ng stoked about it.

Same smash burgers on. Mondays - you totally should - and a fresh face flipping them.

New menu coming out on a slow roll, the first three things he’s added have made me smile bigly, can’t wait for you to get them in your hands.

Nights like these put that music in my head every single time. I’ve never taken them for granted, they’re little bits of medicine, vignettes that land like an anti-depressant for me, for us.

I’ve said it a thousand times, and I’ll say ten thousand more, the antidote to all our maladies is all around us, all the time, and it is each other. Being together. Sharing the shared experience of being human. Telling lies, laughing loud, or sharing weight (talking to you in this one, David Patrick Tye) … it’s the thing. It is the fu***ng thing.

Let’s do that. Let’s do that a lot this weekend. We’ve got laughter for days. Happy Friday, people. May all of yours spread like butter, and if we are lucky, lead your orbits to ours, we’re here for it.

I find it patently embarrassing the number of current circumstances to which this statement applies, but it does, and I agree with it, and feel compelled to speak. Not just for me, but for this group.

I suppose I could close my eyes and pick one of any number of issues at random to which to apply the statement, but, frankly, I find it so embarrassing we are at a place we even have to discuss the proper or improper nature of such inhumane, awful, sometimes evil things going on, it’s hard to know where to start.

It occurs to me that, beyond stopping looking to our phones for our opinions, maybe we just need to reframe. Take the Who out of the equation, and switch to the What.

Like … do you think a state should sponsor bombing a little girls school because adults can’t agree? No sane person would.

Like … do we think we are better as a culture with masked gunmen marauding about cosplaying police … would we want that for our children? No sane person would.

Like … do we think mass murder of civilians - human beings all - is a good or acceptable policy of state? No sane person would.

Like … do we honestly believe ethnicity ought to be a marker for judgment in general? No sane person would.

F**k man, do we honestly believe that one gender is somehow better or more qualified or capable than the other? I’m not even answering that stupid fu***ng question.

And of course, above, operative word is “sane.”

I will say I believe our humanity is on the metaphorical ballot right now. And speaking seems the least we can do, I just don’t think I have the right to stand mute.

As my brother Midnight Matty Raab is wont to say, silence is violence. Literally.

I could go on, but the point stands. And before you ask me why I’m using my wee tiny neighborhood bar to “be political,” I am not, these are human issues, not political ones, and my question to you is … why aren’t you?

It is time. We are and should be defined by where we stand amongst our brothers and sisters. And for me, you’ve got a heartbeat, and you’re trying, you are my brother and/or sister.

We should talk about it, all of us, together, but I’m 10 toes down right here, right now.

My word … Work was done yesterday, capital W, front and back of house both, these fine folks were a veritable hurricane of labor, pushing long into the night, reminding me once more how lucky I am, and proud of this place and the people in it. Bananas. Just freaking bananas.

Fun was had, very surely lies were told, and laughter held no bounds.

More importantly, the patio tables are brand new again, they won’t be brand new again until the Tuesday after Labor Day next year, you’d be crazy not come post up at one, maybe leave the first drink ring in it, maybe just listen to one of about a hundred and thirty two trillion stupid (hilarious) stories from yesterday. It can go any way you want. We don’t mind.

Happiest of Tuesdays, people. Come cool off with us … we’d be so pleased to see you.
