Celebrity wellness mogul Gwyneth Paltrow is officially coming for San Diego, and not just with one Goop Kitchen. Leasing documents obtained by SanDiegoVille reveal the brand has already locked down a second county location inside UC San Diego’s jaw-dropping new $453 million Triton Center, a massive campus megaproject poised to become one of the busiest destinations in the region.

As UCSD undergoes a transformation fueled by more than $7 billion in investment, Goop Kitchen is planting itself at the center of what could soon rival some of San Diego’s most vibrant urban districts. Love it or hate it, the LA-ification of San Diego’s dining scene just accelerated, and thousands of students, faculty, visitors, and trolley riders are about to get a daily dose of Gwyneth’s wellness empire.

Less than two years after opening and only six months after a major rebrand and restructuring, Deckman’s North Park is closing its doors in San Diego. Michelin-starred chef Drew Deckman’s attempt to recreate the magic of his acclaimed Valle de Guadalupe restaurant never quite found its footing in North Park, despite significant media attention, a two-story space, celebrity investor Joe Musgrove, and even a glowing San Diego Magazine feature published just last month. The restaurant will serve its final meal on June 27, bringing a swift end to one of Southern California’s most heavily hyped dining experiments. Deckman’s seafood concept at Petco Park is expected to remain in operation through the remainder of the 2026 Padres season, though its future beyond this year remains bleak.

What happened to Eppig Brewing? A new liquor license filing suggests Eppig’s iconic waterfront San Diego tasting room may soon become Point Loma Beer Garden, marking the latest chapter in a years-long saga involving controversial management deals, brewery closures, ownership transfers, and mounting litigation surrounding the businesses that once made up San Diego’s House of Mason empire. What was pitched as a growth strategy in 2023 has since been followed by shuttered locations, asset transfers, lawsuits, and now the possible disappearance of one of San Diego craft beer’s most recognizable names.

Something curious is happening along San Diego’s idyllic Sail Bay: while most public trash cans remain manageable, the receptacles directly in front of the Catamaran Resort & Spa routinely overflow with garbage that ends up scattered across the beach and into Mission Bay, and nobody seems eager to take responsibility for it. The City of San Diego may technically own the cans, but as Evans Hotels profits from one of the bay’s busiest waterfront destinations, it’s fair to ask whether the company should be doing more to ensure its slice of paradise doesn’t become a dumping ground every weekend.

Despite multiple warning signs posted along San Diego’s Sail Bay warning that bacteria levels exceeded health standards and that contact with the water could cause illness, dozens of children were seen swimming and training in Mission Bay on Tuesday during activities appearing to be associated with the City of San Diego’s Junior Lifeguard Program.

The video, recorded by .sd , takes place one day after the program’s first assessment and comes as a new water quality report raises concerns about persistently elevated bacteria levels in waterways feeding into Mission Bay. SanDiegoVille has reached out to program officials for comment.

San Diego’s paid parking experiment in Balboa Park was supposed to generate millions. Instead, the numbers tell a very different story. After public backlash, attendance declines, vandalized kiosks, policy reversals, lawsuits, attorney fees, and mounting operational costs, City Hall is now abandoning the program less than a year after it launched. Meanwhile, trash fees are being rolled back at a projected cost of roughly $100 million over two years as the city struggles to close a $146 million budget deficit. How much did taxpayers actually spend getting to a solution many critics warned was necessary from the beginning?
