Thank you to everyone who has continued to support Vegan Bloc. Although we did not celebrate or make much noise, June marked our 1 year anniversary. Along with that, we re-certified our kitchen permits and paid our fees. However, as we move into this new year, we find that some transparency might be helpful for those who are unaware of MEHKOs and what our company represents.
1. Vegan Bloc is a Microenterprise Kitchen (MEHKO). We use our permitted home kitchen to make our food. Our kitchen has been inspected by the County of San Diego. Our record number is DEH2022-FFPP-015022.
2. MEHKOs are not allowed to post business signage outside of their homes. For those who have been lost or confused finding us, I apologize for this inconvenience. This has been a point of contention for me as well.
3. Unlike brick and mortar restaurants, we face many unique limitations. For example, we are limited to serving 60 meals a week.
4. Vegan Bloc is a small business run and operated by one person, who is also a graduate student, counseling intern, and most importantly a parent to homeschooled children. Although I might recruit the occasional help, e.g., delivery driver hubby or graphic designer best friend, there are limitations to what one person can do. Vegan Bloc is a venture of the heart. My goal is to offer affordable vegan pizza to those who will allow me to cook for them. Every ingredient in my pizzas take time and effort, and my intention is for that to carry over to the final presentation.
5. Why Preorder? Besides the limitations imposed upon us (60 meals/week), another reason Vegan Bloc is preorder only is due to my own time commitments and minimizing waste.
Thank you for those who took the time to read this. I want to thank everyone who has allowed me to cook for them. I hope that I can continue to do so.
Starting this fall, we will only be open one day a week. We are hoping to have on-demand orderings alongside our usual preorders. Stay tuned!
