Bliss General Manager Dorian Mills recently announced that he’s retiring at the end of May — which means you only have a week to come bid him farewell!

During his 15 years at Bliss, Dorian has overseen every imaginable aspect of operations — from working the line and charming guests to juggling suppliers and contractors. In short: he will be greatly missed.

“These 15 years have been nothing short of magical and I take great pride in having helped make Bliss what it is today,” Dorian said. “I’d like to sincerely thank everyone — our staff, our regulars, our community — for making Bliss such a special place in San Antonio. I have the utmost faith in Owner and Executive Chef Tony Hernandez and I’m excited for him to lead Bliss into its next chapter.”

As for Dorian’s future plans, they largely revolve around rest and relaxation. “There’ll be some decompressing,” he said. A soccer fanatic, Dorian is excited about the World Cup coming up this summer, getting back on his bicycle and hopping on planes to visit friends old and new.

Hailed as a visionary rule-breaker, iconic Canadian architect Frank Gehry passed away on Friday at the age of 96. A rebellious spirit who championed everyday materials — including corrugated metal and chain link — Gehry is the mastermind behind some of the world’s most recognizable buildings, including the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris, and the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao in Spain — a masterpiece that revitalized and transformed the industrial Basque city. “In Bilbao, Spain, they wanted to shoot me when they saw the [Guggenheim design],” Gehry once explained. “And now they get $500 million a year in revenue to the city.” Described by The New Yorker as “a fantastic dream ship of undulating form in a cloak of titanium,” Gehry’s Guggenheim unwittingly inspired the design for Bliss, which award-winning San Antonio architect Candid Rogers brought to life not with titanium, but galvanized metal siding — an unassuming material Gehry would’ve likely approved of.

The menu for our New Year’s Eve celebration has dropped — and it does not disappoint! Priced at $150 per person with two-hour seatings between 5:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. (with the 10 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. slots guaranteeing stellar views of downtown fireworks from our parking lot), the prix fixe menu features Bliss classics old and new — from oyster sliders and beef short ribs to ahi tuna tartare and hanger steak (not to mention our signature butter cake).
