What a great morning at the 5th Annual Harvest Trot! 👟🏅

We loved connecting with the community and sharing information about our VIDA location and our new Palo Alto hospital. We were also proud to provide the medals for this year’s event!

Thanks to Bexar County Commissioner Commissioner Rebeca Clay-Flores, Bexar County Commissioner Pct. 1 for bringing the community together. 💙

Two transplants. Two living donors. One incredible story. ❤️

When Jamie Lane needed a liver transplant, her daughter, Cam, stepped forward to donate part of her liver.

Seven months later, Jamie needed another transplant. This time, a friend became her living kidney donor.

Today, after facing liver failure, declining kidney function and breast cancer treatment, Jamie is back doing what she loves, including walking the golf course several days a week.

Read how living donation, expert transplant care and the people closest to Jamie helped give her more time with the life she loves: https://ow.ly/wO6450ZW1wF

Breast cancer detection and screening have made incredible progress over the past 25 years, leading to fewer deaths. However, more women are being diagnosed—especially those under 50.

Dr. Sara Ortiz-Romero encourages every woman to start a conversation with their doctor around age 20 about family history and risk factors. Early discussions can help determine if breast screening should begin before age 40, when most women are recommended to start annual mammograms.

Take charge of your health, know your risk and talk to your doctor. 💗

🎈 It was a beautiful day at Balloon Fest at Retama Park!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to visit with the University Health team. We enjoyed connecting with families, neighbors, and community partners while celebrating all that makes the Schertz, Cibolo, and Selma area so special.

We're grateful to The Chamber for another wonderful event and look forward to continuing to serve this growing community through Retama Hospital, located next to Retama Park in Selma.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and Sickle Cell Awareness Month, making it a special time to celebrate the strength of our pediatric hematology and oncology patients. 🎗️💛

Generously funded by Hope Hits Harder Cancer Foundation, the celebration gave our patients a chance to take a break from appointments and treatment and simply be kids.

We’re grateful for every opportunity to celebrate them. ✨

It’s 9/25, and we’re working 9 to 5 on something special: giving the gift of reading. 🎶💕

Today, we’re celebrating the spirit of giving and the Imagination Library program that brings free books to children in communities around the world. 📚

Through our partnership with Imagination Library of San Antonio, every baby cared for in the NICU at University Health Women’s & Children’s Hospital is automatically enrolled to receive a free, age-appropriate book every month until they turn 5.

And now, families can enjoy a little reading magic while they’re with us, too, with our new Dolly’s Book Nook in the NICU Family Waiting Room.

From the NICU to home, we’re helping build brighter futures, one book at a time. ❤️

Happy Dolly Day! 🦋

Not every flat spot on a baby's head is the same. 🤔

While plagiocephaly is often caused by positioning and can improve with conservative treatments, craniosynostosis occurs when skull bones fuse too early and may require specialized care. Understanding the difference can help parents know when to seek an evaluation.

Learn the signs, key differences and treatment options that every parent should know. Read more here: https://ow.ly/RgVk50ZR5L1

🚑 What could the next chapter of your nursing career look like?

For current Trauma Nurse Fellow, Lucia Martinez Aguilar, the program has provided opportunities to learn from experts across the trauma system and to gain a deeper understanding of patient care beyond the hospital walls.

"The fellowship has truly opened my eyes to the many parts of nursing, both in and out of the hospital. It has helped me grow a new perspective and respect how we all truly are a team working together, from start to finish, for what's best for the patient."

For fellowship graduate, Jenny Block, the experience helped pave the way to her current role on University Health's Pediatric Critical Care Transport Team.

Whether you're looking to expand your clinical expertise, experience trauma care from a new perspective or prepare for future leadership opportunities, the Trauma Nurse Fellowship can help you get there.

Applications are now open!
