Yes, the rumors are true…
For the first time in over 80 years, The Short Building will be changing ownership. This is the same building we’ve occupied for more than three years, right alongside Peaceful Easy Feeling and over thirty local vendors.
If we’ve seemed quiet on social media lately, it’s because we’ve been trying to figure out our next move. Up until this week, we genuinely believed this would be our last month or two ever, and in some ways it still feels that way. As a business, we’ve been through three owners, a name change, losses, divorces, and some major shifts in our model. It has been a challenge since the very beginning, and we honestly didn’t want to face yet another big change.
To start winding things down, this was supposed to be our last week offering our sandwich and salad menu. Then our sandwich cooler died and ruined most of what we had left, and the very next day our pizza timer went out too. We weren’t sure if it was coincidence or a sign, but that setback gave us a full day to think. We decided to meet with the future owner just to hear their ideas, and the meeting went so well that we feel comfortable sharing this: we will most likely be coming back in Spring 2026. There will be a lot of changes, and our main focus will shift more toward pizza, but the plan is to return.
Right now is a challenging time for us as well as for Peaceful Easy Feeling, and we could really use your support during these last few weeks. On Monday we’ll have a more condensed menu, and we’ll do our best to keep everyone updated. If everything stays on track, the new owner will take over in January to begin remodeling, although that timeline may still shift. It’s not a secret, but we don’t want to jinx anything by naming them yet — however, if this post gets 200 reactions, we’ll spill the beans on Facebook.
