Genevieve, take a step back in time at Sara's Ice Cream, a vintage gem specializing in nostalgic favorites - featuring hand-dipped ice cream in all the best ways! The day she opened the shop was unnaturally cold day in May that kept most everyone from venturing out. Fortunately, a few Girl Scouts stopped in for ice cream, and by the end of the first day, the shop had made a total of $13.39 in sales. Sara owned and operated the shop for 44 years before deciding in late 2024 that it was time to sell. Michael and Rebecca Monia purchased the building in December 2024 and after renovations, they held a grand re-opening on May 3, 2025. They maintained the original name "Sara's Ice Cream" because of the shop's legacy in the town and to honor its original founder, but they've made some changes - including partnering with an ice cream company out of Michigan (Ashby's) known for its premium ice cream (not available on line or in stores - you have to come to a shop like this to get it!) and they make their own waffle cones and bowls fresh daily along with made from scratch brownies (for brownie sundaes or brownie topping) and sea salt chocolate chip cookies they use in making ice cream sandwiches. They've also added a craft coffee menu, with an organic focus to the offerings. What was it before it was an ice cream shop? The building was originally Ted Meyer's Shoe Store which provided the local Mississippi Lime Company workers with boots and work wear. Now, the shop provides locals and tourists with a refreshing treat during the summer. When you stop in, ask the workers about the soda fountain. It is a 1930s Bastian-Blessing fountain from the Old Orchard Drug Store in Webster, Missouri.
