There’s a speakeasy hidden behind a bookshelf in St. Robert.
Seriously. Behind a bookshelf.
It’s called The Oak Room, and walking inside feels more like finding a hidden neighborhood bar while traveling than something you’d expect tucked away in St. Robert. There’s also an inconspicuous red-door entrance, and once you’re inside, the whole place has an old-school lounge feel. Comfortable chairs, low-key atmosphere, good drinks and a place where you can actually sit and have a conversation.
The bar has draft beer, cocktails and a big bourbon selection, and the entire place is 21+ and cigar friendly. There are burgers, smoked & fried wings and other bar food coming out of the kitchen.
It’s also a great place to disappear for an afternoon. There’s pretty much always baseball, football or golf on the TVs ... but without the feel of a loud sports bar. And tucked around the room you'll find some old-school entertainment, including pinball and NBA Jam.
One of the biggest surprises might be Happy Hour. Wednesday through Friday from 4–6 PM, they run what may be one of the best Happy Hours you'll find in Mid-Missouri, with inexpensive drinks and food specials that make it worth finding the hidden entrance.
The Oak Room is open Wednesday through Saturday at 946 Missouri Avenue in St. Robert.
It’s one of those places you can drive past a hundred times and never realize what’s hiding inside.
Find the red door. Find the bookshelf.
