We enjoyed bringing great beer and live music to Lowertown and sincerely hope some of you take time to cross the river and visit us at Birch's on the Lake.

BIRCH’S LOWERTOWN ANNOUNCES PERMANMENT CLOSURE
Popular Neighborhood Restaurant And Taproom Will Close Its Doors October 17 Amidst Pandemic

Saint Paul, Minn. – October 6, 2020 – Today, Birch’s Lowertown announces the permanent closure of their restaurant and taproom located inside Market House Collaborative in the Lowertown neighborhood of Saint Paul. The last service will be on Saturday, October 17.

“Before COVID-19 the restaurant and tap room were doing very well,” says Burt Joseph, Owner. “Our lower-level piano bar was filled every week with customers enjoying our live music. Unfortunately, when we were able to reopen after the mandated closure, we were the only restaurant in Market House Collaborative to do so and we weren’t able to regain any momentum. The shortened Saint season and reduced capacity also contributed and we didn’t see the traffic we anticipated.

Birch’s Lowertown opened inside Market House Collaborative in September 2018 alongside Almanac Fish, Peterson Craftsman Meats, Salty Tart Bakery and Octo Fishbar. Birch’s expanded several weeks later adding a popular lower-level piano bar featuring weekly live music.

“We are keeping the piano bar experience alive by moving it to our Long Lake location,” says Joseph. “We took out our very long communal tables and replaced them with small cocktail tables to adhere to social distancing guidelines. Guests will be able to enjoy the same live music and ambiance downstairs in our redesigned brewhouse. We will truly miss the Lowertown neighborhood and hope customers will make the trip out to Long Lake.”

Birch’s Lowertown will remain open through October 17 with full service and beer to-go Wednesday through Sunday 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Our rich and spicy Mexican Chocolate Milk Stout (6.5%) is back! This beer is layered with flavor from cinnamon, chocolate, ancho, chipotle, habanero, and ghost peppers.

Who’s ready for a beer?! Birch’s Lowertown will be OPEN today at 4pm!
We will also continue to offer Crowler sales to-go out of the taproom starting at 12pm.
To kick things off, we’re tapping a couple kegs of our Peaches N’ Cream Sour (5.2%) - a bright and refreshing sour full of peaches and apricot, with a touch of lactose for added creaminess.
Hours going forward will be 4pm - Close Wednesday thru Sunday.
