“So many roads I know
So many roads to ease my soul…”

As the “Days Between” come to an end, I am filled with warmth and peaceful feelings… reconciled with what could have been, what actually was, and where the continuum of life has taken me.

Thinking fondly on this day about my time spent on the corner of “Space and Time” — 5th and Wall — finally working on Wall Street, definitely not in the capacity I once imagined.

I loved St. Paul, and I miss St. Paul. I miss the people, the neighborhood, and the community that became such a large part of my life.

My hope has always been that St. Paul can be a place where people can safely live and work — both the housed and the unhoused — and a city that recognizes and values the small businesses that invest in its neighborhoods and help make those communities what they are.

There is a social compact in all of this — an expectation of a safe environment in which to live, work, invest, and build something. Small businesses are economic engines. They create jobs, generate revenue, invest in neighborhoods, and breathe life into communities. But those engines also need a safe environment in which to thrive and breathe.

Compassion, public safety, and support for small businesses should never have to be mutually exclusive.

And perhaps there is something here for our elected officials as well — a reminder of the power of music to bring people together, to soften divisions, and to remind us of the things we share even when we disagree about the road forward.

“Thank you for a real good time.”

And most definitely, a big thanks to Jerry Garcia for opening the infinite door to music… a door that has remained open all these years.

“Without love in the dream, it’ll never come true.” 🌹⚡💀

Who would’ve thought a trip to the taqueria would one day feel like entering a dispensary—
locked doors, a side entrance, a guard standing watch.

The next day, the East Side. Same ritual.
Doors closed. One barber. A wide smile that says you’re remembered.
Clippers humming in a dim room, time slowed.
When it’s done, I’m guided quietly through a back hallway,
exiting through a coffee shop like a secret kept safe.

There’s a warmth in these moments that’s hard to name—
a connection with friends and neighbors built on trust,
familiarity, and shared understanding.

An unbreakable bond.

And something sacred in knowing
the doors are still open for me—
and for my fellow Americans.
