Four years and counting! Thank you to everyone who came out to show love on our 4-year anniversary. It's no small feat in this industry to be where we are, and for that, I am eternally grateful to everyone who has walked through those doors, ordered merch, shared a post, donated, and told a friend. This is what community support looks like — thank you for all that you do.

As Flava heads into the next phase of our journey (yes, we have plans, y'all - stay tuned), stability and sustainability rooted in community are key. Wow. Four years. 🥹

I am so grateful for everyone who has passed through this space — those who lent their time, energy, and passion. A HUGE shoutout to all Flava crew members, past, present, and future. Every volunteer. Every consultant (on and off the books). 💛

Four years ago, I left my full-time job — one with benefits that I LOVED — to pursue a passionate desire: to build community within a third space that elevates Black girls, women, and gender expansive people. From that, Flava was born.

This journey has held so many highlights — like receiving the Alice O’Brien Award from our very own City Council, and being named among 100 Women in Business.

It’s also held real challenges: staff turnover, reduced income, furniture falling apart (even the furniture knows how much y’all love this place 😂) — but we’ve prevailed, and we will continue to sustain.

As I (we, community) celebrate four years of beauty in this place, I’m also embracing the model of Sankofa — acknowledging our past to inform where Flava is headed.

With that in mind, I’ve launched the Flava Sustainability Fund, to make sure we’re here for a long time, not just a good time. ✨

Well, one reason is because of our host MaLLy ✨✌🏾 - he actually listens to the artists, takes time to get to know them (and their style), cracks jokes, works hard to never miss a week, curates dope playlists whenever DJ Digie isn’t spinning, and he respects the space. So, when you pull up tonight from 6-8p for the function, dap him up! He’s a good one! 💪🏾🖤
