How cute is this theme for a baby shower?! I was absolutely thrilled when the order form came in and literally counted down the days until I could make it.

Adding the artistically scribbled black marker to get his classic style was a little strange at first. Especially with a pastel color scheme! I wouldn’t have thought in my own to add a ton of black accents. But by the end I was swinging that marker around practically saying “Weeeeeeeee!” as I marked up my cookies! 😂

Almost everything in the set was decided by the customer… she had a vision in her head, and isn’t it the cutest ever??

Weird fact: I can remember what I was watching while decorating my cookies for awhile afterwards— it’s like the show or movie is imprinted with them in my mind. I made these cookies a couple months ago… but looking at this picture right now, my brain started playing “My Heart Will Go On”. And I realized, “Oh, that’s right! I was watching Titanic as I decorated these!” 😂

I just loved seeing this set come together… each layer added bringing it more and more to life. I hand painted all the gold, which isn’t as hard as it looks! You just have to have a teeny tiny brush and go slow. 😀 I added shine to the slipper on the pillow, for obvious reasons. Then I decided I wanted that shine on the drapes and the “two”. The black fabric on her neck and blue in her hair are such little details, but it’s what makes her undeniably her.

Have a wonderful day, everyone! ❤️

This is an excellent example of my absolutely wonderful customer telling me several requests for the cookies and I have fun fitting it all together! It’s really satisfying when cookie planning activates the creative part of my brain!

And just like that, we are officially into “spooky season”. Although, in classic Chocolate Chickadee style, spooky season is still very cute!

I love this set… but my favorite part might be the spider on the ghost. And how adorable his little hands are holding the sign up. And his freckles. Ok, maybe my favorite part is that whole cookie! 😂

I’ve had the absolute honor and pleasure of making cookies for Walser Automotive Group, specifically their new talent division, for several years now. They always give me the best ideas of what they want… they’re clever, and classy, and so much fun to make!

I am really happy with how the keys turned out, especially the gold part with the indent. And, know what? That effect is the easiest thing in the world!

After piping the black parts and letting them dry for a bit, I piped the “metal” part. I did this in white since I paint them gold later. Then I set them aside to dry for about a half hour. That way the outside has dried enough to have formed a solid layer on top, but the icing is still quite flexible inside. I took a small offset spatula (any blade would do) and pressed it gently into the icing creating that dent.

Essentially, it’s manufacturing a situation that would be a disaster if I didn’t want it to happen! And for the record, yes that has happened to me many times— my finger or something else accidentally touching something that haven’t dried yet creating a dent. That means I scrape it all off and start again. Ironically, that’s usually how I use my offset spatula! 😂

I thought these two cookies needed a close up. They started out as white shapes (with the exception of the duck’s head and neck) and then I hand painted them.

I used to be a lot more timid while painting. I have no formal training in visual art— everything I know I’ve learned by watching, trying and making mistakes! I’m still a little intimidated when painting and drawing… I’m still a disaster when it comes to creating visual art that doesn’t include sugar!

But I’m feeling more free when it comes to creating art on my cookies. Now when I paint, I trust myself and let my hand go where it wants. There is so much joy that comes with creative expression and I am so lucky I get to experience that daily.

I’m always the happiest cookier in all the land when I get a woodland creature theme! I literally chose it for the theme of my 50th birthday party. 😂 I had the plates and cups and everything with baby woodland creatures all over. Unusual? Perhaps. But no one that came to the party was surprised since they all know me!

My incredibly wonderful customer gave me full artistic freedom with this set. Besides the theme, she just requested some blue and the phrase “Let the adventure begin”. I decided to lean into the additions of pinecones with the more subtle theme of delicate linework.

Also of note is my recent discovery of the additional cuteness added when you turn the feet in on the clothesline baby onesie. See that? I also gave the feet an extra little squeeze of icing so it would appear to dip in at the ankles, like real footie pjs do!

Have a great day everyone! ❤️❤️❤️

I just realized I never shared this whole set! I shared the printed picture and how much fun that is to add to any set. And I told you how to make that cute puffy purple flower. But I didn’t show you how it all came together! And to answer your next question, yes. My hand was sore after all that delicate piping. And YES! It was totally worth it. 💕

Have a great week everyone!

When making this spoon, I wanted to make sure I got the characteristic dip in the center. So, I did exactly the opposite of what I normally do to fill in a space with icing! Usually I outline, then fill in the center with sort of a “hill” of icing so it would sort of slope down to the outline. That gives the shape a nice puffy look to it!

But this time I outlined with nice thick icing three or four lines on top of each other providing one high outline. Then I piped puff consistency icing inside the spoon and around that outline, but leaving the center empty. Then I used my scribe to pull the minimum amount of icing into the center to connect it all together!

The other end of the spoon is just some fun and fancy piping work. Then after it all dried, I painted it with edible gold!

I loved how it turned out and can’t wait to make them again!
