And y’all… we are SO glad the weekend finally made it! 🙌

🏈 Friday is here, St. George! 🏈
That means ball games, Friday Night Lights, and—just as important around here—Nannie’s Blue Plate Special! 🙌
Before we get to lunch, though, come start your Friday morning with a Western Omelet stuffed with ham, cheese, peppers, and onions, served with a fluffy biscuit or toast. Add a latte and, well… suddenly getting out of bed on Friday doesn’t seem quite so unreasonable. ☕😂

Don’t Peck Too Close to the Fence

If you’ve ever raised chickens, you know they are curious little creatures.

You can give them a whole yard full of grass, bugs, sunshine, and plenty to eat, and somehow they will still end up standing at the fence, stretching their necks through the wire trying to reach one tiny patch of something on the other side.

They’ll peck around the edge. They’ll scratch underneath it. And if they find the smallest little opening, they’ll work at it until suddenly—there they go.

Outside the fence.

The funny thing is, most of the time there wasn’t anything better on the other side. But now they’re outside the protection of the fence, separated from the flock, and exposed to dangers they never had to worry about while they were safely inside.

I think we Christians can sometimes do the same thing.

God has given us boundaries, not because He wants to keep us from enjoying life, but because He knows what is waiting outside those boundaries.

Yet sometimes we get awfully comfortable pecking around the fence line.

Maybe it starts with the music we listen to. The shows we watch. The movies we choose. The conversations we join in. The places we go. None of it seems like a huge deal at first.

And maybe one song, one movie, or one choice isn't the problem.

But then one becomes two.

Two becomes a habit.

And a habit quietly becomes part of our everyday life.

Before long, things that once bothered our spirit don't bother us quite as much anymore.

That's where we have to be careful.

The enemy usually doesn't need a wide-open gate. Sometimes all he needs is a crack.

Something gets into our mind, and then it stays there. A lyric plays over and over. An image comes back to us. A thought takes root. And little by little, our attention can move away from God without us even realizing how far we've wandered.

The Bible says:

"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind..."
Romans 12:2 KJV

We live in this world, but we don't have to let the world set our standards.

We don't have to participate in everything simply because everybody else does.

There are some things we ought to look at and say, "That may be acceptable to the world, but it isn't good for my heart."

That isn't being self-righteous.

It's being wise.

A chicken doesn't understand that the fence is there to protect it from predators.

But we should understand why God gives us boundaries.

There are things outside that fence that want to steal our peace, dull our conscience, weaken our relationship with God, and slowly pull our hearts in another direction.

And the farther we wander, the easier it becomes to forget where we started.

That's why sometimes we need to examine our lives and ask:

Have I been pecking a little too close to the fence?

Is there something I've allowed into my life that is becoming a habit?

Is there something I once would have avoided that I now barely notice?

Is something filling my mind more than the things of God?

We don't have to live afraid of the world. But we do have to live aware.

Because the safest chicken in the yard isn't the one who knows how close it can get to the fence without crossing it.

It's the one that's content enough inside that it doesn't need to keep testing the boundary.

Maybe the question shouldn't be, "How close can I get and still be okay?"

Maybe it should be:

"How close can I stay to God?"

"Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life."

It’s Wednesday — hump day! We’re right smack in the middle of the week, which means the weekend is finally starting to peek over the horizon. 🙌

Come see Shane and the girls this morning and start your day with one of our rich, creamy grits bowls. Build it just the way you like it with eggs, your favorite meats, veggies, cheese… you tell us what you want, and we’ll fix it up! Add a hot latte to the mix — Pumpkin Spice or our fun Halloween Ghoul Latte — and Wednesday is already looking a whole lot better. ☕🎃

☀️ Good morning, friends and family!

We hope everybody had a great weekend and got to enjoy a little football, baseball, softball, or just some good old-fashioned time with the people you love. Around here, Tuesday is our Monday, so we’re getting things rolling again this morning and ready to see some familiar faces. ❤️

Stop in and say hello to Annette, the girls, and of course Shane. Grab yourself a hot latte and a muffin, or if your morning requires a little more encouragement than caffeine alone can provide, we’ve got you covered with a full breakfast. 😄

🍳 Try our Two-Egg Breakfast Plate with your choice of bacon or sausage, add grits or a hash brown, biscuits or toast, and you’ll be ready to tackle Tuesday like you actually got enough sleep last night.
