First visit. Great meal. And apparently, some seriously good fries. 😊

Ever wonder where the “Cracker” in Florida Cracker Cafe comes from?

Florida Crackers were the cowboys of early Florida, known for using long whips to move cattle through the state’s rugged landscape. The sharp “crack” of those whips is the explanation for how they got their name.

And apparently, cattle weren’t the only Florida critters they knew how to handle.

This photo from the State Archives of Florida, captioned “Live Alligator and Cracker Team, Orlando, Fla.,” shows that a little ’gator wrasslin’ was part of the story, too.

Florida history has always had plenty of character. We’re proud to carry a little of it in our name at Florida Cracker Cafe, 81 St. George St.
