There are certain objects that are so significant that they transcend into artifacts. If this were most other records it might be headed directly to the trash bin. And if it had come into possession to most anyone besides Jon B, it might have done just that.

The cover is partially missing and shredded, the media is “well loved” with some good scratches, but with all that it is still an OK player.

When I was flipping through the bins at Rooky’s in the dark yesterday, my giddy inner 15 year old came out and with an audible “oh damn!” This was SST 001, the very first release of one of the most significant punk alternative labels of all time. There were only 2,000 pressed. I have never been in the same room with a copy…let alone held one…let alone had the opportunity to own one. It is one of the true “grails” for those who know it.

It’s one of the earliest (if not the earliest) West Coast Hardcore Punk records (recorded in ‘78, releases in ‘79). These small platters changed the trajectory of so many lives all over the world and most certainly did so to mine. I always say that Punk Rock saved my life and Black Flag and this 7 inch (I got it from a friend on a home made mix tape when I was 13) was one of the earliest things to pull me into the music and the scene.

It just goes to show you, like I always try to tell people — don’t sleep on Rooky’s ever…especially now that Jon B is back.

Go down there soon, but leave your rent money home. There is so much heat there, you might get yourself into trouble 😂

Hey all, come through this Sunday 11/9 for an awesome record and vintage clothing sale.

I will be there with some killer deals as I continue to clear out my Midtown warehouse. There will be records, CDs books, and other things left over from the shop, that I am hoping not to have to move to Oakland. So needless to say there will be deals to be had!😉 All my proceeds will be donated directly to Arab Resources & Organizing Center (AROC).

My daughter will be there selling vintage clothing that she has been hunting down over the past two years. She has a good eye and is a relentless digger, so you definitely want to come check out her wares.

Gave up one of my storage units today and let go of the last remnants of what was once was Pressed. This was all that was left that didn’t find homes with other people doing other amazing things with the equipment, the displays, even some of the record and CD stock.

It’s strange to see such a big and beautiful dream reduced to this pile of “refuse”. I am not sad, have zero regrets and I know my partners both feel the same.

After all, we did it. We manifested this thing and got to meet all of you and I know it served its purpose. I feel nothing but peace letting these things go and blessed for the whole experience and all of the wonderful folks we met because of it✨

Tonight if you are so inclined, raise a glass, pour some out on the sidewalk, tip your hat or just conjure up a happy memory of our little spot on 18 & L Streets — I know I will ❤️

There is so much going on in the world and so much need right now I know…but I wanted to reshare this on this account, because everyone who was touched by what we had at Pressed should know that it is directly because of this man, Dick Vivian — and, he needs a little help right now.

Recently, Dick was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and is currently going through treatment at UCSF — something that is difficult and a financial burden for anyone, but financially devastating to a solo, small business owner like him. This GoFundMe is set up by his friends and chosen family to help him during this time.

When we lived in San Francisco, Jon B. and I spent every Friday we could at Dick’s shop, digging through stacks, listening and learning from him. Dick, his shop and the community he gathered was the direct inspiration for what we set out to build with Pressed. The simple truth is that if not for him, Pressed would never have existed and we wouldn’t know so many of you.

If you know Dick, or if you were positively touched by Pressed and are able, please give a little to help him out — we love him lots and would appreciate anything you can contribute ❤️
