Dear Capital Cat Café Community,
We know you have been eagerly awaiting our opening. We are amazed at the amount of continued support we have had over these last 4 years. Sadly after all the money we have spent and the time we have invested the project has come to an end.
We consistently hit set back after set back. Our main battle was submitting our plans to the building department many times, and each time we had new comments and responses to problems we had previously addressed. There have been new building codes, expired stamps and additional specialist we had to hire. There have been many conversations with the city and many updates to our plans. Each submittal costing more money for both the submissions and the subcontractor. This latest scrutinized plan from the city included a notice that after 3 submittals they now will be charging $120.00 an hour to look at revised plans that they have demanded. We received our health department permit and our conditional use permit without a problem.
The owner of our building has been more then accommodating with the time it has taken and the set backs we have had.
Personally we have both had lots of changes in our lives in the last 4 years. A late stage cancer diagnosis, job changes, and family health issues. Though through it all we held on to the belief that our plans would meet all the cities challenges and our buisness would open. We have had lows and highs in these last 4 years and are devastated that we’ve had to give up.
We are a mother-daughter team who wanted to invest in the community we call home. It’s unfortunate that the city we love made it impossible for us to fulfill our dream. Even the professionals working on our plans were baffled.
We thank you all and we are sorry that we were unable to fulfill our promise of creating an enjoyable space for all and to give cats a second chance. We have learned that the city of Sacramento is not small buisness friendly, from building owners not wanting to lease to a buisness without corporate backing, to real estate agents that don’t return calls, and the building department repeatedly throwing red tape at us.
Again, thank you for your
