Farmacy Friday Feature - our final one of this summer season!!

This was the last week of the main season for our Farmacy: Food Is Medicine program! We can't believe the season has now come to a close, it's always bittersweet.

This week we are celebrating the beautiful purple-top turnips from Stones Throw Farmstead in the shares this week and shining a light on all the farms that grew for us this season!

We also want to thank Roaring Brook Family Foundation for their generous financial support for Farmacy this year and of course, we couldn’t do this without our incredible, dedicated volunteers! 🙌 A huge shout-out to the amazing crew who showed up EVERY Wednesday for fifteen weeks in a row to bag Farmacy shares and help get fresh, local food into the hands of our participants. Your time, energy, and commitment make this program possible, and we are so grateful for each and every one of you!

From our local farmers to our generous supporters, healthcare partners, and wonderful volunteers, thank you for making another Farmacy season so meaningful. That’s a wrap on Farmacy Friday for this summer season— but the impact of this community’s generosity continues long after the last share is delivered.

Our summer veggies will be coming to a close on the market soon, but it's a great time of year to roast, blanch, or even chop up whole vegetables and stock up your freezers for fall and winter!

We are nearly halfway through the month, and a reminder that the Hannaford Fight Hunger Bag Program has chosen VFFC as a recipient for this program for the month of October at our Hannaford location - 318 South Main St., Rutland VT!

You can support our food access programs like Farmacy by purchasing a bag this month - thank you to Hannaford Supermarkets for choosing us again this fall!

Thank you to another wonderful group of volunteers from Medical Reserve Corps of Rutland and Addison counties and Project Vision who helped clean out behind our solar shed and the Baxter St. Alley two weekends ago. We are so grateful for the community helping us to be a positive presence in our neighborhood!

VFFC's Harvest Fest is almost here! 🍂

We’re counting down to Harvest Fest on Sunday, October 18! Join us from 5:00–7:00 PM at Farmers Hall, 251 West Street in Rutland, for an evening celebrating local food, farmers, community, and everything we’re growing together. 💚

Enjoy live music, local food, w**e from Farmer Wines, local apple c***r, appetizers, and a delicious farm-to-table dinner featuring ingredients from 18 local farms! Pot Roast, Hearty Bean Bake, Root Vegetable Gratin, followed by apple crisp and more. Yum 🍎

You’ll also get a special look at what’s coming next for the VFFC campus — including our vision for creating more opportunities for farmers, food businesses, and our community.

Farmacy Feature Friday - only one more after this!

Today we’re shining a spotlight on some beautiful butternut squash grown by Tim at Taliesin Farm! 🎃 This hearty Vermont crop made its way into our Farmacy shares this week.

We’re also incredibly grateful to the Healthy Living Fund for their financial support of Farmacy! Your investment helps make it possible for us to connect people with fresh, local food while supporting the Vermont farmers who grow it.

Oh yeah, it's definitely winter squash season now!!! Which one is your favorite and how do you like to cook with them? 🎃

We are excited that this week on the VFFC Online Market we've got 8 different types of winter squash to choose from, all of which are represented here with this handy guide to these autumn beauties! Winter squash is one of those long game crops for our farmers who tend to the plants for months - check out which farms have them available this week, with all their care that went from seed to plant to harvest!
