On July 29, 1958, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the National Aeronautics and Space Act, creating the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

Since its founding, NASA has inspired generations through groundbreaking achievements, including the Apollo Moon landings, the Space Shuttle program, the Hubble Space Telescope, the International Space Station, and the ongoing exploration of Mars and deep space.

On July 27, 1953, the Korean War Armistice Agreement was signed, bringing an end to more than three years of active fighting on the Korean Peninsula. While the agreement established a ceasefire, a formal peace treaty was never signed.

Today, we pause to remember the more than 36,000 Americans who gave their lives during the Korean War and the millions of others who served with courage and honor. Often referred to as the "Forgotten War," its veterans made extraordinary sacrifices in defense of freedom and our nation's values.

The City of Rupert extends its sincere gratitude to all Korean War veterans and their families. Your service, sacrifice, and dedication will never be forgotten.

Pioneer Day is an opportunity to reflect on the spirit of service, sacrifice, and neighbor helping neighbor—values that continue to strengthen our community.

As we celebrate our shared heritage, we also recognize and appreciate all those who have contributed to the growth and success of Rupert through the generations.
