Five years ago, this post commemorating our 25-year anniversary as owners of the Romeo Cafe circulated the internet and was viewed over 100,000 times. We were touched by this recognition and it strengthened our already resounding pride in the Romeo community.
For 90 years (established in 1932), the Romeo Cafe has thrived in our quaint little building in downtown Romeo, 30 years of which we have been lucky enough to share with you all. It is with overwhelming emotion that we share that this year has been our last. We're getting older and our family is too. We are looking forward to spending more time with our children and grandchildren.
We wish the new owners success with their new establishment and we encourage our valued patrons to continue to offer their support.
As we close this chapter of local history, we would like to express our sincere gratitude. Thank you Romeo, from the bottom of our hearts, for 90 amazing years of support for the Romeo Cafe.
On May 1st, 1992, Chris and Jennie Stevens purchased the Romeo Café from Andy and Sally Hill with a handshake.
We have been proud to serve the town of Romeo for 25 years, and to be a symbol of continuity to you, your family, and friends.
Maybe you’re there every morning at 5am for coffee, or maybe you and your friend call in sick once a year to have lunch together. Perhaps you stop in for a bite to eat while biking the trail through Romeo, or have lunch while you’re renovating your house. Maybe a late breakfast after your child’s soccer game or dance practice. Maybe you take time out of your busy schedule to meet your dad for breakfast on Friday mornings. Or maybe we’re your favorite spot after a night where you had a little too much fun (we promise we won’t judge you!)
Just maybe your first time there you were in a high chair, and now your child sits in the exact same chair you did.
Whatever your reason for going to The Cafe, we get it. This is where our family and friends gather, too.
If you’ve ever walked through our doors, we thank you for sharing our vision of a small town café, and for all of your support these last 25 years.
