I think one of the strangest things about answered prayers is that sometimes they come with tired feet, long days, unfinished to-do lists, and a whole lot of work.

And still, I wouldn’t trade this season.

We have been so incredibly busy at Whole Bean, and I keep looking around thinking, "this is what I prayed for." A full coffeehouse. A busy kitchen. People gathering around tables. Familiar faces walking through the door and new ones becoming familiar. The opportunity to serve this community, to love on people, and to create a place that feels like it belongs to all of us.

That doesn’t mean it hasn’t been hard. I’ve been tired. I’m still trying to catch up on baking, paperwork, and a hundred little things behind the scenes. There are days when I can feel my own strength running low, and I’ve found myself repeating the same truth over and over:

The joy of the Lord is my strength.

Not my energy. Not my perfectly completed to-do list. Not everything going according to plan. Him.

And somehow, there is strength for the next batch, the next customer, the next decision, and the next day.

Thank you so much to everyone who came out for our ribbon cutting last week. Seeing so many of you there celebrating this new chapter with us meant more than I can put into words. Thank you for showing up, encouraging us, bringing your friends, ordering lunch, grabbing coffee, and simply being part of this place.

We are deeply grateful.

And for those wondering if the Whole Bean update is completely finished yet... not quite. 😂 There are still a few aesthetic touches and ideas we’ve been excited to get to, but the wonderful problem is that we’ve been so busy serving you that some of those projects have had to wait.

So keep an eye out. We still have a few things up our sleeve.

For now, I’m learning to be grateful for the unfinished things, because they are sitting right beside so many answered prayers.

We are tired. We are thankful. We are blessed beyond measure.

And by the strength of the Lord, we’ll keep pouring coffee, baking the goodies, loving on our community, and taking this beautiful season one day at a time. 🤎

A little ribbon-cutting note for Tomorrow/Thursday! ☕️🤎

We want our whole Whole Bean team to be able to step away from the counter for a few minutes, stand together, be in the pictures, and celebrate this moment with the community that has supported us so incredibly well.

So, on ribbon-cutting day, we’ll stop taking lunch/food orders at 1:30 PM so our kitchen and front-of-house crew can get ready to join the festivities. The ribbon cutting begins at 2:00 PM.

And don’t worry, we won’t leave you empty-handed while we celebrate! We’ll have a carafe of coffee and some extra goodies out for everyone to enjoy during the event. ☕️✨

After the ribbon cutting, we’ll be happy to jump back in and serve drinks and anything we’re able to for a little while longer before our normal 3:00 PM closing time.

This season has meant more to us than we can put into words. We are so grateful for Rocky Mount, for the way this town has welcomed us, encouraged us, and shown up for us, and we really want our employees to be part of this milestone too. They’ve worked incredibly hard to get us here.

Thank you for giving us a little grace with the adjusted food service that afternoon so we can all stand together for one very special picture and one very special moment.

I didn’t get a single picture today.

The grinder broke. I didn’t get all the baking done that I had planned before we opened the doors this morning. Drinks may not have gone out quite as fast as we would have liked while our newer team members found their rhythm alongside a few of our OGs.

But you know what? Those are the “don’t sweat the small stuff” things.

Because the big stuff was really, really good.

My team showed up and gave everything they had today. They worked hard, helped one another, learned on the fly, smiled through the busy moments, and cared about every person who walked through our doors.

And Rocky Mount, you showed up too.

The love that poured into Whole Bean today was overwhelming in the very best way. Seeing familiar faces again, meeting new ones, hearing your encouragement and watching this little coffeehouse fill back up with life made every imperfect moment feel pretty insignificant.

Opening day wasn’t perfect.

It was better than perfect.

It was real. It was full. It was a little chaotic. It was joyful. And it was ours.

We’ll get faster. We’ll learn. We’ll bake more tomorrow. And yes, we’ll fix the grinder. 😂

But tonight, I’m just incredibly grateful for this community and for my most amazing team!

Whole Bean is officially back, Rocky Mount. And what a beautiful first day it was. 🤎

3… 2… 1… 🤎

Yesterday, I hosted Coffee and the Word at Whole Bean, and there was something incredibly symbolic about standing beside these women and tearing the paper from the windows together.

More than ten years ago, a dear friend of mine, Micah, and I started a small women’s group called Coffee and the Word. The heart behind it was simple: to be sisters. To encourage one another, pray for one another, cheer one another on, and choose to build each other up in a world that can so easily teach women to tear one another down.

Whole Bean is not Coffee and the Word. They are two separate things with two different purposes. But Coffee and the Word helped steward something in my heart long before I could see what it would become. It gave me a place to serve, to dream, to gather people around a table, and to trust the Lord with the heart He had placed inside of me.

So when it came time to finally uncover these windows, it only seemed fitting that some of the women who have walked alongside this journey would help me do it.

There was something about ripping that paper away that felt bigger than simply uncovering a storefront.

It felt like, “It’s time.”

The dreaming, the praying, the working, the waiting, the renovating, the long days and late nights have all brought us here.

Tomorrow, the paper is gone, the doors are open, and Whole Bean begins this next chapter.

Rocky Mount, I am so happy to see you again.

Tomorrow we reopen. And it’s finally time. 🤎☕

I walked into Whole Bean this morning anticipating the last piece of the puzzle before Monday’s reopening: our Health Department inspection and permit to open.

Instead, I walked in and heard a noise.

I couldn’t quite figure out what it was at first, until I looked down and realized there were nearly two inches of water covering the foyer.

Somehow, the hose to the coffee maker had come loose, and within seconds, the chaos and adrenaline kicked in.

But do you know what else kicked in?

Community. 🫶

Before I could even fully process what was happening, our amazing business neighbors showed up.

Tyson and Bob from Angle Hardware came over immediately with a squeegee and fan, made sure the water was shut off, and jumped right into cleanup.

Amy from The Painted Trunk came running down in her nice clothes, grabbed a mop, and went straight to work.

Max and the crew from The Porch & Voodoo Lounge, Bar & Fire Kitchen. brought fans and a shop vac.

Sterling and Ashley from Divined Beauty showed up with even more fans and shop vacs. And this isn’t the first time this week they’ve had to save the day around these parts!

And I can’t forget my sweet husband, who immediately thought about the new rug in the foyer and came right down to make sure it was cleaned and saved. It may sound like a small thing in the middle of all that chaos, but that rug has history. It’s one of those pieces that carries a story with it, and I would have been heartbroken to lose it.

So yes, Sammy officially saved the rug’s life today. 😂🫶

My Whole Bean crew, who was already scheduled for training, kicked it into high gear too and made sure we were still ready when the health inspector arrived right in the middle of all the cleanup.

Whew. What. A. Morning.

But standing there watching everyone work together, I couldn’t help but think about how what the enemy meant for bad, God turned for good right before my eyes.

Because instead of remembering today as the morning Whole Bean flooded, I’ll remember it as the morning this little town reminded me exactly what community looks like.

People didn’t hesitate.
They didn’t stand around and watch.
They grabbed mops, fans, squeegees and shop vacs and got to work.

What an amazing town we get to be a part of.

On the good days, the messy days, and every day in between, I am so incredibly grateful to call Rocky Mount home.

And after everything this journey has thrown our way, here we are.

Still standing.
Still smiling.
Still moving forward.
And only a few days away from opening those doors.

Nothing is stopping us now, Whole Bean fam. 🤎

Today was one of those days that required a little extra grace.

A walk, a deep breath, and a moment to remember just how far we have already come.

The pictures are going up. The furniture is finding its place. Every new detail makes the vision feel a little more real, and we are finally heading into the home stretch. Thanks to helping hands and lots of grit!

There is still hard work ahead, but there is also so much to look forward to. All of the long days, tired hands, unexpected challenges, and faithful steps are beginning to come together right before our eyes.

Sometimes we are stronger than we realize, especially when we pause long enough to remember where our strength comes from.

My flesh may be tired, but my faith is strong. God is good, and that is what matters most.

Hi y’all! I figured it’s time for another update.

There is something magical about watching this place slowly come back to life.

The floors are finally finished, the furniture is making its way back in, and my team has been cleaning, carrying, organizing, and helping bring every little piece together. There is still plenty left to do, but it is beginning to feel like Whole Bean again.

This journey has been a little chaotic, a little messy, and full of moments where we have simply had to laugh and keep moving. There were tiny moments that felt like a road map to nowhere but through all of it, I have been reminded of just how blessed I am by the people beside me.

I truly have the best employees! They have worked hard, stayed flexible, encouraged me, and cared about this place as though it were their own. I am so proud of them and so grateful they are part of this chapter.

We are tired, a little dusty, and probably surrounded by more boxes than we would like to admit, but we are getting closer.

One piece of furniture, one clean corner, and one answered prayer at a time. 🤎
