Never under heat lamps, unless you're late picking up a phone order. Our old fashion soft serve ice cream is made with 10% butterfat content, while DQ, and other shops around the area use 5% -6% butterfat content. Our fruit toppings, and shake flavors use real fruit, when possible. Strawberries, Cherries, Pineapple, Black Raspberry. We use ONLY Canola oil in our fryers, and completely change our f

ry oils on average, every 4-6 days, dependent upon how dark it is. We never strain, filter, or reuse our fry oils. Filtering may remove the solids, but it does not remove the residual flavors from past fried foods. We use four separate fryers in an effort to prevent cross flavoring of your food items. Our fryers, and grill are computer controlled. Consistently cooked from one visit to the next. We NEVER re-purpose our food offerings. Our creamed chicken sandwiches are made fresh from canned pulled chicken, not from left overs from yesterday's specials. Our battered chicken tempura strips are made from whole white meat pieces, not ground, and pressed 'nuggets'. Our hamburgers are 85% lean ground chuck, made fresh, and never frozen, from Barry's Family Market in Rockford. Some businesses use 75% lean ground beef in their hamburgers, which means that their hamburger is 25% fat. It is definitely cheaper to buy, but that quarter pound pattie, pre-cooked, only weighs 3 ounces after cooking it, and all the fat has been fried out of it. Most of our deep fried side orders are battered, not breaded. We've found that using battered food items helps to keep our fry oil cleaner, longer, and the flavors do not tend to carry over in the fry oil. Most of our customers seem to prefer battered, over breaded, too. The Mercer County Health Department Inspector has consistently given us very high marks after each surprise inspection, frequently commending us on maintaining our safe food temps, overall cleanliness, employee training, and the cleanliness of our food prep areas. Over the past 3 years, we have not had one negative comment, or write up from the Health Inspector, and we intend to continue that record. At the close of business in 2017, we set about expanding our parking area to accommodate longer combination vehicles, such as pickups pulling boats, campers, trailers, grain wagons, etc., or school buses, motorhomes, RV's, straight trucks. Unfortunately, we do not have room to allow semi-trucks to use our parking area. The available entrance, and exit does not have enough room to allow wide turns required by semis. We will also offer handi-capped parking for the first time in 2018, with easy entry/exit for all vehicles by way of 4 lanes of traffic. We've also acquired some new chairs, and tables for our customers to use along the side of the business. We have some other improvements that we are looking at for the near future, and will announce them when we plan to make them available to our customers. Thanks for visiting our page.

Hello, Everyone, Well, as a new season approaches at break neck speed, unfortunately, we will NOT be opening the Tastee Twirl this season, due to ongoing health issues that I have been dealing with since last Sept. It was discovered that I had a stroke sometime last fall, and coupled with being rearended while stopped in traffic for a red light, by a driver traveling between 35-40mph, while I was sitting still in stopped traffic waiting on the red light to change. A total of over $10,985.00 in damages was done to my 2020 Ram pickup. The frame was bent to the point that the Reese receiver was bent to the left by about 1.25 inches off center. I was diagnosed with severe whiplash/concussion, having continuing symptoms of vestibular migraine, and vertigo, to this day. I continue to have balance/nausea episodes about 1-4 episodes per month. I've generally been able to detect the onset of an episode about 10-15 minutes prior to having dry heaves/nausea. To combat these, I've found that I must lie down on my back for about 5-6 hours, before I can sit up without the symptoms returning. On two occasions, it has taken almost two full days before the symptoms go away. Luckily, the accident happened infront of the Pak-A-Sak on North Washington St in Van Wert. Pak-A-Sak security cameras recorded it all, and I was able to get a copy of it.
I spend so much time on the road, picking up inventory during our season, that I average over 20,000 miles over that 4 month period of time. I cannot take the chance of being a couple hours or more, from home, when one of these episodes happens. I cannot simply pull over along the side of the road, and lie across the seat for 5-6 hours, or more. And I can't wait for a couple people to come to me, to bring me, the truck, and the inventory, home, especially if I have the back of the truck loaded with refrigerated/frozen inventory on a hot day. The inventory would thaw/spoil. We don't relish the idea of not opening, and we certainly feel bad for our employees, who have already expressed their desire to return to work for us. Unfortunately, this was the best choice for us, at this time.
We do have a couple different parties who have expressed an interest in buying the Tastee, and we've reduced our asking price by $50,000 from what we were asking last year, to $236,500.00. So, if one of them, or someone else decides to buy the Tastee, it may still open for part of the summer. Almost all of those employees, currently 12 individuals who hoped to return this season, have told me that they would be willing to work for the new owners, if they asked them to do so. Otherwise, we'll do our best to make it thru this year, find out what my prognosis is, and what the plan is for dealing with my health issues, and with a little hope of opening up next year.
We apologize for any disappointment that this announcement may cause to our loyal customers, and we hope that you understand. Thank you. Take care. Stay safe. Trust in Him. Steve/Crystal Sheets

Just wanted to remind our customers that Sunday, Sept 8th, will be our last day of business for the 2024 season. We want to thank all of our customers, for their continued patronage, and trust in us to serve your families the best quality products that we can acquire. Our employees realize that without our customers, they wouldn't have a job. And for that, they thank you all.
As we approach the end of our season, unfortunately, we have to begin drawing down our inventory, so that we are not forced to carry access inventory after we close. This will no doubt cause some of our menu items to not be available as we get closer to our last day of business. Each year, it's a bit of a gamble trying to estimate how much of each inventory item that we need to reorder in these final days, without ordering too much of an item. We hope, and ask that our customers understand if we do not have the menu item that they had hoped to order. We wish each of our customers a very safe, and prosperous fall/winter season. Take care. Stay safe. Trust in Him. Thank you from all of us.
