❤️ In Loving Memory of Uncle Jim ❤️ 🚒🐺⛑️
Today, we said goodbye to my favorite uncle, Uncle Jim.
Uncle Jim and my dad, Jack, were twins, and anyone who knew them would agree that they were unforgettable. They were also two of the most selfless and generous people I have ever known. It seemed that whenever anyone needed help, all they had to do was call Jack and Jim. They would gladly help without hesitation because that was simply who they were. In addition, they both loved to hunt and go crabbing. Also never be late and they meant it
I believe they had both been members of the Galena Volunteer Fire Company since they were about 16 years old. They also helped with the Catholic bull roasts, Christmas bazaars, St. Dennis bingo games, and many other community events. My mom and Aunt Kate worked alongside them through the church and the Ladies Auxiliary.
I believe those experiences helped lead me into the restaurant business. From a very young age, I watched my dad and Uncle Jim cook while my mom and Aunt Kate helped prepare and serve food. Feeding the community was simply what our family did.
Many of the principles I follow today came from those childhood experiences. My dad and Uncle Jim believed that if something was supposed to be served hot, it should be hot—and if it was supposed to be cold, it should be cold. My dad was especially strict about quality and wanted only the very best when it came to food. I still follow those same standards today.
Saying goodbye to my favorite uncle has caused me to reflect, especially as I approach the age my dad was when he passed away.
I will always be grateful to Aunt Kate and Uncle Jim for taking us camping when I was little and for so many other wonderful memories. Aunt Patsy, Uncle Dallas, Little Pat, and Mike were also an important part of those special family memories. With Miss Joyce and Mr. Dickie living right next door, along with the Bryant and Mulford families and all the other children around us, we had a wonderful neighborhood and a close-knit community. Growing up in a small American town was something truly special.
My heart is with our entire family, especially Aunt Kate, Uncle Jim’s daughter, Mae, his son, Jimmy, and all of his grandchildren. I know how deeply they loved him and how greatly he will be missed. I hope everyone finds comfort in knowing that his generosity, values, humor, and unforgettable personality will continue to live through his family and everyone whose life he touched.
Rest peacefully, Uncle Jim. Thank you for the memories, the example you set, and the love you gave us. You will never be forgotten. ❤️ your favorite nephew JR. I love you ❤️ uncle Jim
