Sugar Mama's As of June 2024, Sandy happily retired from baking and passed the torch to Monique Monette, a local artist, musician and chocolatier.

The bakery is now Sugar Mama’s, and Sandy continues to have three wonderful rooms full of books within the building! 🥰

To our wonderful community and loyal customers,

After much thought and many difficult conversations, we have made the heartbreaking decision to close the bakery permanently. The Bookery remains open and Sandy is looking forward to expanding a bit this summer.

This was not a decision we wanted to make. Like many small businesses, we’ve faced rising costs and financial challenges that simply became more than we could sustain. We fought hard to keep our doors open, but ultimately we reached the point where we could no longer continue responsibly.

We are incredibly grateful for every customer who stopped in for coffee, pastries, conversations, celebrations, and everyday moments over the years. You made this bakery so much more than a business—you made it part of the community, and that is something we will always treasure.

Thank you for allowing us to be part of your lives. Your kindness and support have meant more than words can express.

My sweet, funny, and fun-loving mom passed away at 4:20 on Cinco de Mayo, on a Taco Tuesday like a true party animal. What a legend. She will be missed by many and I’m so grateful to have had her as a mom.♥️💔♥️💔♥️ The restaurant will be closed until further notice while I handle arrangements for her services and several aspects of her property in New York. A huge thank you to all of you who have been so supportive and kind and have reached out to me and sent me love as I’ve gone through these painful last few weeks. I really cannot even begin to express how much it has meant to me to know that the community has supported me and to feel so cared for.  The gratitude that I have in my heart right now is warm and deep. ♥️🙏🥰

It’s been difficult for me to step away from the bakery but family comes first, and I guess I’m going to have to take a little spring break here. As my Mom nears the end of her life, I’ve made the choice to spend more time with my family in NY, so we can be there for each other and help her transition as peacefully as she can. The Bakery will be closed until further notice. I love and appreciate you all so much and I miss seeing all your smiling faces. In the meantime, Sandy and I are also making some interior changes and she will still have the book areas available, as well as the entire Bookery next door. Thank you for your patience, I can’t wait to see you all again, truly. ♥️

Hi friends,

I’m sad to say that my mom nearing the end of her life right now, and I’m trying to spend as much time with her as I can over the next few weeks.
Because of this, the bakery may have some unexpected closures or shorter hours.
I truly appreciate your understanding during this time, I love all of you and you’ve been a big source of comfort for me over these last few months as her illness has progressed.
Thank you for your kindness, patience, and continued support—it truly means the world to me and my family right now. 💛
