On Feb. 13th, 1930 during the height of the great depression, I.N. "Nick" Bullington opened the 10 stool Texas Tavern and began serving its famous bowls of chile, hamburgers, hotdogs, and cheesy westerns. With a no frills atmosphere and the motto "Give the customer a fair shake" the Texas Tavern has become a landmark and a rite of passage for many locals and visitors alike. Known as "Roanoke's Millionaires Club”,
it is still run by the same family, now in its 4th generation of ownership.

America turns 250 this July 4th. The Texas Tavern isn't quite that old... but at 96 years, we've been here for a pretty good stretch of the ride.

Since 1930, we've welcomed everyone through our doors—from early risers to night owls, first dates to family traditions, locals to travelers.

Some things change. Some things don't. A Cheesy Western. A bowl of chile. A cup of coffee. And a grateful heart for the country we call home.

A heartfelt thank you to Texas Tavern for treating our Miss Virginia and Miss Virginia's Teen delegates to a Roanoke tradition.

Since 1930, Texas Tavern has been serving up legendary hospitality alongside its famous hot dogs, burgers, and homemade chili. Our delegates loved experiencing one of the city's most iconic landmarks while taking a well-deserved break from the excitement of pageant week.
