Before all the craziness happened a few weeks ago, sweet BBQ Sauce from HEART Rescue had an adoption application submitted. He had only been with us for a few days when he had to be removed from the café after the other HEART cats in his room tested positive for panleuk.

After several weeks of waiting, his application was finally approved — and today, BBQ Sauce was picked up by his new owner! She swung by the cafe just for this photo op!

He may not have gotten to spend much time at The Toebean, but we’re so happy we got to be a tiny part of his journey. And we’re even happier that he’s headed home!

The Loft Boys. ❤️

These two have completely stolen our hearts. Mr. Gray has helped Rusty come out of his shell so much, and watching their bond grow after their owner passed has been pretty special. Rusty is a sensitive boy, and having Mr. Gray by his side has given him the confidence to let his personality shine.

Now we’re looking for the perfect home where these two can spend their golden years together — safe, loved, and spoiled exactly like they deserve.

They must be adopted together and will need to be the only pets in the home.

Rusty will need a calm, quiet household where he can take his time settling in and feel secure. Mr. Gray is much more of a “whatever, man” kind of guy, but as Rusty’s emotional support bro, he’s going to have to embrace the peaceful retirement lifestyle, too. 😂

We know their perfect home is out there. It may take a little longer to find, but we’re willing to wait for the right one. These boys have each other, and that’s something we never want to take away from them.

Well… our first day back after quarantine wasn’t exactly the grand reopening we had pictured. 😂

Let’s just say the tumbleweeds were practically rolling through the cafe. 🫠

BUT—we did have one very important thing happen…

🥯 BAGEL GOT ADOPTED!! 🥹🐾

And that makes her #208 to find her forever home through The Toebean!

After the past few weeks, getting to watch one of our kitties head home today felt pretty darn special. We may not have had a packed cafe, but we got to send one sweet girl off to her happily-ever-after—and honestly, we’ll take it.

Thank you to everyone who came out today and supported us as we finally reopened our doors. We’re hoping tomorrow brings a few more humans through the door… because these cats have been waiting!

WE’RE COMING HOME!

After what feels like the longest week and a half, we’re finally getting ready to welcome you back to The Toebean this Friday!

We truly cannot thank our community enough for the incredible way you’ve shown up for us. Nearly everything on our Amazon Wish List was purchased and sent to us, and so many of you also sent monetary donations through Venmo.

Because of you, we don’t have to spend money we simply didn’t have to replace all of the things we had to throw away—especially after being closed for two weeks. You saw what we needed, and you took care of it. That means more to us than we can put into words.

And thank you to everyone who has donated not just supplies, but your time and muscle to help us assemble cat trees, furniture, and get everything back into tip-top shape for opening!

You’ve reminded us that The Toebean is so much more than a business. It’s a community—and our community takes care of its own.

So this weekend, we want to give a little something back to YOU!

We are heartbroken to share that Jessie became critically ill and, despite hospitalization, passed away suddenly today. We want to remind everyone that the very first diagnostic test done was a test for panleuk, given the circumstances. The vet did not think it was panleuk on presentation, but we had them test for it anyway. JESSIE WAS PANLEUK NEGATIVE. So, this is the last thing we expected. She had perked up on her IV fluids and we were excited to hopefully have her return to the cafe this week, but that is not how things unfolded.

While her time with us was short, she knew love. Jessie came from a horrendous hoarding situation, and we were grateful to give her a clean, cozy space where she was cherished and cared for. We wish her story could have been different and we are so grateful she knew kindness in her last days.

This past week has been difficult on so many levels. Thank you for your kindness and support. All the messages asking how the kitties are means so much to us. ❤️

Rest easy, sweet Jessie.

***We are still in our 2 week quarantine period and no kitties have shown any symptoms of panleuk at all. We’ve been monitoring them all very closely, and so far so good!***
