The Origin of Tivoli:
Tivoli, a town of Rome Province, commands the principal natural route eastward from Rome across Italy. The site has been continuously occupied since prehistoric time. Originally an independent member of the Latin League and a rival of Rome, Tivoli early passed within the Roman orbit and attained fame and prosperity as a summer resort under the early Roman Empire. Among the ma

ny remains of wealthy Roman residences of this period in the immediate neighborhood are those of one that was subsequently acquired by the Emperor Hadrian to become the nucleus of his famous VillaTivoli is an important landmark in the history of architecture and is still among the most romantically impressive monuments surviving from antiquity. Surviving Roman monuments within the town are two well preserved temples overlooking the falls and substructures of the Great Temple of Hercules Victor. In Tivoli also is the Villa d’Este, steeply terraced down the slope alongside the medieval town, which was begun in 1550 by Pirro LiGorio for Cardinal Ippolito d’Este. Its gardens, a magnificent example of Renaissance landscape architecture, are unrivaled in the wealth and fantasy of their fountains.

The last three weeks have been very difficult and continue to seem surreal. The loss of our husband, father and grandfather has been just about the only thing occupying our minds since it happened. But, we know that Frank Stancato would not want us, or you, to be distressed.

There have been many questions asked about the future of Cafe Tivoli since that time. This last week, Maria, Joseph, Stephanie and Steve met with the Cafe Tivoli Staff to inform them that it is their plan to keep Cafe Tivoli open for the foreseeable future. This has been a difficult 2026, but with Frank's guidance, we have been taking steps to ensure the continuance of the restaurant.

Frank would have wanted it that way, and we all want to make him happy. Since 2021, Steve has been involved with the back end and management of the business and you may start seeing more of Joseph, Stephanie and maybe even some of their children from time to time.

We are all looking forward to continuing, and we will make every effort to improve Cafe Tivoli. In the last few years, we have all had conversations with Frank about bringing Cafe Tivoli to people in different ways, and we have already begun working on our website and partnering with various delivery systems. With time, we will be working on making some special additions to our menus, and bringing some new and fresh dishes and specials to enjoy for lunch or dinner.

Cafe Tivoli will never feel exactly the same without Frank, but we will try our best to honor his memory by sharing the same sense of community, delicious food, and service you have grown to love over the years.

We appreciate that you entrusted Frank and his staff with all of your special occasions and milestones. We hope to continue those traditions and to improve ourselves where we can.

There will be changes that you will see, and some that you will not. But, rest assured that all of it will be geared toward keeping Cafe Tivoli open and Frank's spirit alive. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Francesco Frank Stancato, aged 84, of Englewood, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026. Frank was born in the small mountain town of Longobardi, in the province of Cosenza, Italy. In young adulthood, along with members of his family, he left for the United States in search of

We are devastated beyond words to announce the loss of Frank Stancato, husband, father, grandfather, brother and owner of Cafe Tivoli.

For almost 40 years at Cafe Tivoli and almost 60 years in the Bergen and Hudson County areas, Frank was happy to host thousands of dinners, parties and events of all kinds. Every person that walked through his doors became more than a customer or employee to him. He considered you all family and friends.

It is more than evident that many of you felt the same way, as the outpouring of love and support since his passing on July 19, 2026 has already been immeasurable to all of us who survived him.

He was happy to work almost until the end. And though he hit a rough patch and was not around as much lately, he always asked how everyone was doing at Cafe Tivoli. He always had plans to get back and see you. We will all miss him, but we are sure he missed seeing you all even more. We are working on finalizing his memorial arrangements, and we will post more here when confirmed.

We can't imagine what it will be like without him physically in the restaurant and in our homes, but we know his legacy and spirit will live on forever. He was always laughing about something and we are going to do our best to continue to laugh, even though it feels like the greatest part of us all is missing.

Thank you to all of you for making our husband, father and Nonno so happy all his life. He truly loved Cafe Tivoli and everyone who worked there or came to share their special moments with him. We thank you all endlessly.
