Did you know that during WWII, more than 600,000 Italian immigrants in the U.S. were labeled “enemy aliens”? Some faced curfews, travel restrictions, confiscation of property, and even internment.

At the same time, thousands of Italian Americans served in the U.S. military and worked on the home front in shipyards, factories, and defense industries helping support the Allied war effort. The Galileo Club on 23rd Street in Richmond was no exception. The club operated 24/7 for the duration of the war, serving meals and providing a place to relax for a few hours. This amazing organization is a Home Front Hero!

Join historian Jim Davis for a fascinating talk exploring the complicated and often overlooked experiences of Italian Americans during World War II, from hardship and discrimination to patriotism, resilience, and contributions on the home front.

I can hardly wait.
