Ok my fellow neighbors I’m getting this question asked a lot, should my ac be running all day because it’s so hot outside? The answer is NO, my ac runs and shuts off when meeting temperature I’m calling for, it may kick on quicker than usual cause it is very hot out but it does shut off. Example if you are calling for temp to be at 75 degrees and it’s up running at 79 you do have a problem it could be a few things, lack of maintenance, dirty filters, low on Freon. Hope this helps

Do Ceiling Fans Save Energy?

Ceiling fans offer savings in both summer and winter.

If you want to improve home energy conservation and trim your electric bill, ceiling fans can help, but only when used in concert with other energy saving strategies.

With the following electricity saving tips, you’ll learn how to maximize your ceiling fans and reduce HVAC dependency.

Use a ceiling fan to cool your room temperature, as well as augment your home’s air conditioning.

How to save energy with ceiling fans

Air conditioning uses more household electricity than anything else, by far. At a cost of around 36 cents per hour of operation, it accounts for a quarter of all home energy consumption, according to the United States Energy Information Administration, part of the Department of Energy.

A ceiling fan, on the other hand, costs roughly a penny per hour, so the trick to saving money is using it more and central air less.

To do this, it’s important to know ceiling fans don’t cool rooms; they cool your skin through a wind-chill effect. If you leave a ceiling fan on while you’re gone for an extended period of time, it won’t change the temperature of the room; it only wastes electricity. However, some experts say it helps to limit humidity and prevent mold.

The U.S. Department of Energy says if you use a ceiling fan and air conditioning unit simultaneously, you can raise your thermostat setting by 4 degrees without a change in comfort.

So, the best way to cut electricity bills with ceiling fans during warm-weather months is to:

• Turn fans on only when you’re home and using rooms in which they’re located.

• Increase your house temperature by 4 degrees, or more if you are comfortable.

This strategy also works in the winter. If you reverse ceiling fan rotation, it pushes warm air downward, so you’ll save money by dropping your thermostat to find your ideal room temperature.

5 ways to save on electricity without turning off the A/C

When temps hit the 90s, you’ve got two options: Sit on your couch in a pool of sweat until September or crank the icy cold AC and pay a fortune. Good news: You don’t have to pay a fortune. Just follow these genius steps.

KEEP THE AC ON, BUT INCREASE THE TEMPERATURE A FEW DEGREES

We get it: You love falling asleep with your AC set to 60 degrees. But the lower you go, the more energy you use. (In fact, for every degree below 78, you’re increasing your energy use by 3 to 4 percent, according to Mr. Electric.) Try boosting the temp a bit and see how you feel. Or, if your unit has an “energy save” mode, use it. (It’ll automatically go off when the room reaches your desired temp.)

CLEAN THE FILTERS

If your filter is covered in dust and sludge, it will prevent your AC from operating efficiently (aka it will have to work twice as hard to cool the room). Clean it once a month with a mixture of warm water and dishwashing liquid. That’s it.

SEAL THE DOORS AND WINDOWS

You’d be surprised how much you’re paying to cool the outdoors simply because you have a teeny tiny crack at the base of your front door. You don’t have to pay a repairman a zillion dollars to make the fix--pick up some cheapo draft stoppers from Amazon and voilà. Problem solved.

KEEP THE OVEN OFF

Stop counteracting the cool air by cooking up a storm. Instead, give yourself--and your electric bill--a break by sticking to as many no-cook meals as you can. At least until temperatures drop enough to open the windows and let in a nice cross-breeze.

AND STOP PUTTING HOT FOOD IN THE FRIDGE

Those hot burgers you want to save for later? If you pop 'em in the fridge while they’re still sizzling, it’ll cause the appliance to go into overdrive--and your energy bill to shoot way up. Instead, give the burgers (and other hot foods) a chance to come to room temperature first.
