For children and everyone who would like to gather in memory of Dolly Parton- Join us at Fonticello Food Forest, with support from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (Richmond Chapter), Studio Two Three, and Earthkin Nature School, to hold a children’s memorial for Dolly Parton.

We will read Dolly’s children’s book Coat of Many Colors and a short biography. Attendees will be invited to build a memorial and bring home a Dolly print. BOOK SWAP! Bring a children’s book to swap or donate to the little free library at Fonticello. Event is FREE and followed immediately by the Old Time Jam.

Please park on Bainbridge St and walk to the food forest through the alley across from 27th st.

Let’s talk trees🌳

Richmond’s Draft three of code refresh just came out.

The photo above shows the proposed tree canopy standards. While we are so grateful for any tree protections (because currently the code does nothing to protect our city’s trees) we wonder how can the city reach the 60% coverage canopy goal stated in the Richmond 300 plan with only 20% and 10% minimums required. Recent data shows Richmond’s current coverage at 32% and falling.

FUNDRAISER ANNOUNCEMENT!

We have experienced vandalism at Fonticello this month.
The mulch kitchen structures flipped and broken.
The wind-phone, a place for grief and connection with lost loved ones, was ripped off the wall.

The honest truth is, it’s really hard to do public work.
With everything built comes the potential for it to be destroyed.

Yet the community that cares keeps showing up.
Neighbors and core volunteers came together to clean up and rebuild what we had with the pieces that were left.
And we will continue to show up, again and again.
To rebuild and alchemize the destruction into better spaces. Better structures and better community connections.

So every time someone breaks it.
We heal it better than before.

We plan to rebuild the mulch kitchen and transform it into a new creative space this FALL/WINTER.

We are fundraising with the goal of
$3000 ($3K)
- To spend on lumber that will be strong and poles to anchor it into the ground.
- On paint and muralist to inspire our hope.
- On new ground surfacing to level and engage texture play.
- On new wind-phones that we will bolt into the walls
