Hey folks! Just a reminder that if you are joining us this weekend, it is also the St. Benedicts Oktoberfest. The street will be closed in front of the restaurant. We suggest a ride share service, which can drop you off at the corner of Belmont and Hanover, just a few doors down. There is limited parking in our lot which can only be reached from Sheppard St.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hey folks. We are starting our vacation a little earlier than usual and will be closed from now through September 12th, reopening Tuesday September 13. Looking forward to seeing everyone then!

Poppies means it’s spring means it’s time for rosé and peas and pesto.

To celebrate we’re pouring this gorgrous pinot noir rosé from Omne in northern Chile- cool coastal conditions, melting slow from the Andes and volcanic rock give us refreshing and mineral driven spring vibes.

Duck duck GOOSE. Yes you. Get in here for the last couple weeks of our winter menu before spring sprouts.

Here we have our crispy skin duck breast from Joe Jurgielewiczs free roam farm, brown butter celery root purée, fennel relish with a date and port wine sauce. Sip with Kermit Lynchs Syrah/Grenache out of Languedoc for bliss. Chefs kiss.

In the spirit of the season of love- we’d like to take this time to profess our love for our most recent addition to the family, Galen. You may have seen her behind beloved Richmond bars over the last 15 years. When she’s not crafting cocktails and cracking us up- Galen stays workin in her garden with her dogs and drinkin whiskey by the fire.

This cocktail is sunshine in a glass. Named after our sweet neighbor Arthur Chadwick (ps Valentine’s Day orchids? Perfect gift.) Virago Rum, pineapple, muddled sage, lime, and a fresh orchid.

With beaming pride, we present Executive Chef of The Stables on Belmont: Brycen Woodley.

Born and raised in small town Iowa; Chef Woodley grew up with the culinary traditions of the Midwest; including hunting and fishing along with the inclination towards seasonal, local and traditional. These would soon meld with many similar but new experiences gathered from summers and holidays with close family in North Carolina and Virginia. There he would begin his journey with southern fare and a penchant for hospitality. Eventually he was drawn into professional cooking where he has made his way for the last 17 years.

Chef Woodley moved from Iowa to Virginia full time in 2007, working his way through restaurants in Virginia Beach and Richmond while attending college. Before long he found his way to the Jefferson Hotel where he spent 8 years, moving from TJ’s Restaurant to the banquet kitchen and finally to Lemaire. There he was able to delve ever further into the depths of the Southern cannon while working on perfecting technique and style. In time he would grow into a management position as Sous Chef and eventually Chef de Cuisine under Executive Chef Patrick Willis.

In October Chef Woodley made the jump from The Jefferson and took on the role of Executive Chef at The Stables to explore a broader palate and spread his wings. He brings a wealth of Southern fine dining experience garnered from Lemaire along with his Iowa roots.

The Stables at Belmont is an upscale neighborhood restaurant, located in the Museum District. We are seeking an experienced bartender/mixologist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of bartending experience, a vast knowledge of fine spirits and experience creating craft cocktails. You should enjoy working in a close-knit environment. Bartending at The Stables is a unique experience; the bar is the showcase of our restaurant and the beverage program is important part of the restaurant’s concept. We are looking for a devoted, knowledgeable person to maintain our strong reputation while growing the program. The bartender will be responsible for writing their own cocktail recipes, monthly liquor inventory, and weekly ordering. Other responsibilities are standard for front of house staff: excellent customer service, menu knowledge, maintaining a clean and orderly station. The restaurant is open for dinner, Tuesday through Saturday, from 4:30 to 10 pm. Please send your resume and a brief note about your favorite drink to make.

In honor of the great Charlie Watts, we dub this creation Can’t You Hear Me Knocking! An homage to a timeless groove and the approaching Fall we are greatly anticipating. Complete with Benchmark Bourbon, Yellow Chartreuse, Sour Orange (yes, we love sour orange), Disaronno, and D’Anjou pear bitters. A little grated nutmeg sets it off like that perfectly timed snap of a snare hit. 🍊

We said good bye to an old war horse yesterday; who cooked thousands of meals, celebrating countless Birthdays, Anniversaries, Graduations, and just plain old good times. It owes us nothing, having given its all. And we welcomed an eager young c**t, ready to burst out of the gate, and show you just what he can do!

Thank you to Jessica Wilson of GRACE and Kate Uncorked and Brycen Woodley of The Stables at Belmont for sharing their time and talents as 2022 SCAN Progressive Dinner Chef Partners!

Chef Wilson has been spreading the love of her anticipated opening of her restaurant, GRACE, a concept she has been developing & honing for many years. Her vision for GRACE is the first woman owned & operated sustainable, zero foodprint, urban garden to table cookery + market in Virginia & the surrounding states. Chef Wilson is working toward opening GRACE in Church Hill soon, and she looks forward to you all gathering at her tables & cooking for you.

Chef Woodley spent 8 years at the Jefferson Hotel where he was able to delve into the depths of the Southern canon while working on perfecting technique and style. In the fall of 2021 Chef Woodley made the jump to Executive Chef at The Stables on Belmont in the Museum District. He brings the wealth of Southern fine dining experience garnered from Lemaire along with his Iowa roots to present a laid back, approachable, yet elevated and dynamic take on traditional piedmont fare.
Can not wait to come back! We dined on March 3rd and my pictures just don't do the food justice! We also ordered the lamb lollipops, my husband and I are on the fence with lamb but how I wish I had taken our server's suggestion of getting 4 instead of 3. We were fighting over the 3rd one. Food, service, atmosphere, its a real gem! Thank you for a lovely evening.

Our Special Projects Team recently completed a tenant upfit for The Stables Market in Penstock Quarter, a mixed-use building, in Libbie Mill - Midtown. The market will offer prepared foods from The Stables at Belmont as well as gourmet foods, wine, beer and more.

⚙️ We started with a shell of a space and added the underground plumbing, poured the concrete, laid out and installed the metal framing as well as the mechanical and electrical components, and then completed the finishes, including the case work, the counters and floors, to name a few.

💡 The vision for the space was a rustic barn and stable design and this came to life with the amazing woodwork, the lighting, special details and finishes, not to mention the industrial sprinkler pipe legs for the tables!

Stay tuned for more details on the opening. Thank you to Johannas Design Group, Gumenick Properties and Steven Gooch!
SNEAK PEEK 👀 inside The Stables Market at Libbie Mill!

Who’s excited to become a Stables Market regular? 😉
Executive Chef Evan Campbell of The Franklin Inn and The Stables at Belmont opens up about his go-to ingredients, favorite local markets and hangouts, and the soft spot in his heart for spoons:
Who's tuning in for our Top Chef competition on Saturday?
Evan Campbell (The Stables at Belmont + The Franklin Inn), Tye Hall (From The Bottom Of The Pot + Supermarket Sweep), and Jason Alley (Alley/Jones Hospitality) will have 5 minutes to turn a box of Hungry Harvest produce into a meal or snack. Robey Martin (Eat It, Virginia) will narrate their frantic cooking for the audience.

We are so pleased to announce that Libbie Mill is welcoming a MARKET to the neighborhood in early 2021!
