You often hear stories of families losing everything overnight, but you never think it will be your own. Recently, my Aunt Shirley’s house—a home that held 32 years of family history—was destroyed in a fire.

This wasn't just a building. It was the home she and her late husband built together. It’s where my cousins grew up and made many memories!

We are so incredibly grateful that everyone is safe, but the loss is unimaginable. I’m asking my friends and community to help Aunt Shirley as she begins to rebuild. No amount is too small to help her find her footing again.

Hi everyone! My name is Gillan Ritchie, and I wanted to take a moment to officially introduce myself.

As you all know, Big Herm’s Kitchen has closed its doors.

It’s hard to put into words what this place has meant to me—and to so many of you. For more than a decade, we built more than just a kitchen; we built a community. Laughter echoed through the back room, memories were made over fried turkey and collard greens, and love was served up with every order. I’m beyond grateful for the support, the friendships, and the family Big Herm’s became.

With that being said, let us introduce you to Sweet Leanne’s Catering. You all know her—Leanne has been my catering manager for many years, and truth be told, she’s been my right hand through it all. I’ve taught her everything I know, including some of your all-time favorite recipes. If you’re looking for that same southern-style cooking you came to love on 2nd Street, you’ll find it at Sweet Leanne’s.

The Sad News:

It is with a heavy heart that we announce Big Herm’s Kitchen has closed its doors effective December 22, 2024. This decision was not easy, but the time has come for this chapter to end. These past 12 years have been unforgettable—from weddings and Redskins Training Camps to festivals, bridal shows, and of course, seeing my weekly regulars at the kitchen, many of you have become more than customers, you’ve become family. We will cherish these memories forever.

The Good News:
The catering side of our business will remain open and is set to be revamped, with plans to relaunch by February 2025. After careful consideration, I've decided to take a step back and elected to pass the torch. We are excited to announce that our talented Catering Manager, Leanne Fletcher, will continue to oversee our delicious menus and provide the exceptional service you’ve come to expect.

For all current customers, pharmaceutical reps, and vendors, please continue to communicate directly with Leanne(804-922-3693) for any events already booked and those in the future. I trust she will provide the same top-notch service and dedication to your needs.

For two days only, we'll be back on 2nd Street. This weekend October 5 & 6. We encourage you to stop by and support us during the 2nd St Festival. We will be located beside our old spot. Our search for a building continues, with the goal of re-establishing ourselves on 2nd Street. If you know of a suitable property, please reach out to us on Facebook.
