I don’t talk about our coffee program enough on here, but I am just so proud of what we are serving right now that I can’t help myself.
As many of you know, we work with a few different coffee roasters for various drinks on our menu. But today I want to focus this post on our friends at Recluse—our partners for our light roast, espresso and decaf espresso.
Our current espresso from Recluse is called Manos de Mujer. Founded in 2013, Manos de Mujer is a collective of women producers within the COMSA organization in Marcala, Honduras. Each member owns and operates her own small farm with the goal to improve the economic stability and quality of life for women across the cooperative.
As part of COMSA’s broader women‑led farming initiative, these producers are diversifying their land with fruit and vegetable gardens and raising chickens, pigs, and cows, all with the goal of creating year‑round, sustainable income. The project also supports gender equity on the farms and throughout the community.
All COMSA coffees are rooted in the Finca Humana (“Human Farm”) philosophy: organic and biodynamic agriculture, stewardship of the land, and reinvestment into local education and community projects through Fair Trade premiums. This washed lot comes from 15 women‑owned farms and carries Fair Trade, Organic, and Smithsonian Bird‑Friendly certifications.
As a woman-owned, bird-loving coffee shop, we are honored to support this operation and to be the final hand-off in this particular commodity chain. Things taste better when they are done right, and we are so grateful to Recluse for giving us an opportunity to serve you all this coffee. Come and get it while we’ve got it!
