Xtra’s Cafe is Closed
Help Wanted!
I would like to turn this space into a kitchen of the arts.
I am looking for a few good people with plenty of experience and knowledge in business and/or the arts.
Hours are at your own pace and the reward is the satisfaction of building something special that gives back to those who earn it.
This is not a non-profit but an opportunity to those who are willing to work hard and learn the art of business management.
We are looking for volunteers or a think tank in order to use this space to highlight the talent this area has to offer. The plan at this time is to offer affordable partnerships based on talent, to offer training and skills in the trade.
My vision is to display murals for promoting local artist. Paintings on the walls for sale by unknown artist. To give an opportunity for new chefs to gain experience in the kitchen and prove themselves ready with a night showcasing their own menu. To consider any event that promotes small businesses.
I am looking for; retirees, stay at home moms and people with passion who have always wanted to own a business and have been looking for the door of opportunity.
If you have ideas to share and/or would be interested in meeting like minded people, please stop by Bangles and Beads and ask for Shirley or leave your name and number and I will call you back. My time is limited because we are still getting offers to lease this space. Please act now.

What’s going on with Xtra’s? Because I promised to bring you up to speed, I’ve been having a stay vacation and getting a lot of sleep. I’ve finally stop having dreams of how to fix the old problems and now having dreams of exciting things to do with this space myself. Of course that is causing me to lose sleep again! LOL, but I’m realistic and know it will take more creative people than myself. I have had a few calls from people who are excited and want to help. I can’t wait to meet with them but I suppose I may have to wait until after the Holidays to pull this meeting together. Meanwhile I am still interested in any ideas the community has to offer because one thing life has taught me is there is always a better way.
Does Carytown need another chain restaurant? Should we sell the building and move the bead store? We have been here for over 30 years and have been a part of it all. When I think about the community and what’s best for it, I wonder what you would say. With vultures only offering pennies on the dollar, am I only left with an option of leaving this business empty? With all the educated and artistically talented people living in this community I am thinking of giving Xtra’s to them. Do you know anyone with a lot of talent and/or a little money who would like to be a part of a cooperative to own a business in Carytown? Chefs, Servers, artist, event planners, managers and investors. If so I can be reached at (804)355-0446. Just ask for Shirley
It was just about a year ago that my daughter (with my blessing) chose to leave the restaurant to raise a family. Now I love a challenge and had a lot of fun but I came to realize I was not capable of filling my daughters shoes to run the restaurant. As I realized the Holiday season was upon us and I was going to be so short staffed, I decided that if I couldn’t do it right, it was best not to do it at all.
To those of you I let down and disappointed; please know you were appreciated and now have enough time to grab those jobs available while others are taking the Holiday season off.
I would like to give a shout out to Marty and Teresa who never missed being our first customer every Sunday morning. You guys are so awesome and sweet and their are no words to express our gratitude. There are more of you and you know who you are. You’re the ones who had to look at the pictures of Xtra’s baby during your visit. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
Now I’m not saying this restaurant or a new restaurant won’t be opening back up. I’m saying if it does, I want to make sure it is done right and by someone who knows what they’re doing. Our family is just going to take some time off to figure it all out.
Thanks again to all of you that help make the last 8 years happen.
