It’s hard to get a seat on Saturday night but it’s worth it. We have never been disappointed. So after a 6 overtime Tech win, why not celebrate? The Da Vinci roll is absolutely unique and a wonderful explosion of yellowtail and seasonings unlike anything else in RVA. A white wine to accompany it? The Seeker Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand is a nice touch. Enjoy Osaka. It’s very special.

With the third restaurant opening in Southside in as many weeks, Casa Del Barco is by far and away, the one you don’t want to miss. We must admit that we are impressed...after just opening Island Shrimp Co. a few weeks ago, Casa could have had a few rough edges.... it doesn’t. In fact, from the tacos and esplanades, all of the sauces and dips, to Casa’s signature Margarita, it is perfect. It’s easy to cover the menu with the special Happy Hour prices. Even the basic guacamole was fresh and flavorful. We are big fans of the downtown location, but with this wonderful open design, with a rooftop that makes you forget that you’re in a shopping center, and great food and service, this may become our favorite. Great job...put this on the top of your list to give a try... we will be back.

It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood...so how about drinks and lunch at Tazza? A Bloody and a Oh Fore Sure!, that’s George Dickey 12 whiskey, licorice 43, peppermint tea, spicy cinnamon, lemon, cucumber, and bitters gingerly shaken by D’Eric, who also gave us great service at the bar. We started with the fantastic Cast Iron Goat Cheese. Imagine a marinara and parsley mixed with the goat cheese. It goes to our personal top five favorite apps list. The Crab Cake and African Peanut Soup were both individually outstanding, the crab cake wonderfully balanced in a cream sauce. The shrimp tacos, using a dry rub with guacamole, pico de Gallo, cured cabbage, an a hot papaya sauce, were just as well balanced as the other dishes. You can’t go wrong with any of these! With all of the locations around town, you just may be lucky enough to have a Tazza Kitchen in your neighborhood. We will be back soon.

Now that is a breakfast...fresh, flavorful, and fabulous! Start with the Risotto Cakes..coconut and pineapple, dusted with rice floor, deep fried and served over black bean and corn salsa...wonderfully balanced flavors that had us smiling and loving the sweetness and heat.Next, the Huevos California..eggs over red beans and Cuban bread topped with Monterey Jack cheese, enchilado sauce, lime, sour cream and sliced avocados..an explosion of deep flavor...all the flavors of Cuba on one plate!
Or try the Red Bell pepper and Asparagus Tortilla which is a Spanish tortilla with potatoes, green peppers, and onions served with cornbread so fresh that you feel they just brought the ingredients in from the garden. Truly wonderful. Coffee and a mimosa...sparkling wine with just a dash of OJ.....Great service by Rei....this legendary Fan eatery never fails to give you exactly what you crave. Once again,Kudos Manny! Kuba Kuba rocks!

While in Carytown l decided to stop in at Les Crepes. We have been to the one in Stony Point but wanted to check out this location as we used to love C Street when there.
I was delighted to be back in this beautiful building.
Siara waited on me, and a great server. She started me off with a cup of cappuccino and it was a excellent choice!
I moved on to a small salad with their creamy sriracha dressing, that gave it a nice kick.
The main course was a savory Lobster & Crab Crepe with mushrooms & red peppers topped with grilled shrimp in a rich creamy lobster sauce.
The flavors were all there without taking over the taste of the seafood. I would certainly recommend, if you are a fan of crepes,to go sit in this lovely restaurant during your Christmas shopping in Carytown!
Thank you Siara for the great service and we will be back!

If you have been following this page, you know how much we love to sit at the bar and have great apps and wine. We have found some great spots, and occasionally, we come across a great Happy Hour that we love to share. We hit the jackpot at Osaka..incredible food, great prices, and fantastic atmosphere. Take in a $3 Asahi while you savor the Oceans 8 roll, that’s spicy tuna with jalapeño bits and sauce..quite tasty. Add the Tuna Bites...it’s really a Tuna steak that is absolutely delicious between crispy wontons with this wonderful sauce. Try them both...it won’t break the bank. They are only $5 each. What???
In fact, go for the Lobster Rolls. This is a treat you don’t want to miss. Get there at 5pm when they open for a spot at the bar. We will be back...you betcha!

A group of us were discussing their favorite restaurants and someone said..”that Caribbean seafood place in Midlothian “..of course it was Pescado’s! Ever since our friend Bob Windsor, who was an owner of the location on China Street, introduced us to Voodoo Shrimp, we have been big fans. We miss Bob and couldn’t help thinking about him when we entered into the Midlothian location.
What a wonderful meal starting with Voodoo Shrimp..offering a bountiful mass of flavor and heat, the Coco-Tomato soup, with a perfect balance of sweetness, and then going on to two wonderful entrees. The Pan Seared Escolar over Creamy Pesto Pasta w/ Brushetta Points w/ Raspberry Basamic Glaze was absolutely spectacular. The creaminess of the sauce was perfect as well as the temperature of the fish. The Enchilada Acapulco w/ shrimp and crab cake was equally tasty but couldn’t keep up with the Escolar. We left with our tummies full and feeling incredibly happy like being on the island itself!

Anyplace where you can walk in for breakfast and hear the music of Otis Redding is pretty OK with us, so like it’s sister, Eat 33, Eat 66 in Stratford Hills Shopping Center creates a great diner vibe. The space is colorful, with clean lines, and tastefully decorated. We started with the Fried Green Tomatoes, very lightly dusted to be fried perfectly. After a Bloody Mary, we decided to choose from a wealth of Benny’s...there’s oyster’s, shrimp, and smoked salmon among many other selections to top your Eggs Benedict. We selected the Blackened Shrimp Benny and Smoked Salmon Benny with Asparagus. Both very tasty.
The Richmond Times Dispatch just did an article this morning to announce the opening. Here’s to a long run at the new Southside location...so is Eat 99 next???

With all of the new places opening weekly around RVA, you can forget about that tried and true neighborhood eatery right down the street. Luckily, we made the turn into Stony Point off Huguenot Road and re-acquainted ourselves to Frank’s. What a treat! The Salmon Picatta , made with wild North Atlantic Salmon was absolutely wonderful, while the Chicken special (bringing images of the Italian flag to mind) with Spinach, mushrooms,Mozzarella, and Red Peppers was perfect. Both dishes offered tasty sauces, just right to dip your bread into and take in the fresh spices. The entrees were a great value which came with a salad and pasta side while Brian was attentive to us the entire meal.Since 1991, Frank has been in this location..so don’t forget about them...it’s great.

Having dinner at Brenner Pass is as much a feast for your eyes as it is for your taste buds. The attention to detail is extraordinary, and it ranks as one of RVA’s best. Start with cocktails. We chose the Wasenhorn Spring Awakening and a Some Like It Dirty to start the evening. Both mixed beautifully. The first dish, the Trout Quenelles with Creme Fraiche, Trout Roe, Horseradish and Dill absolutely blew us away with it’s creamy blend while keeping the Trout front and center. The presentation was outstanding. It is easy to make an evening of it by adding the oysters and cheese cart as you ponder the entrees. We chose the Leek Risotto with Black Garlic and Mustard Flowers, and the Linguini Fini with Littleneck Clams, peas and pancetta. Wonderful yet again. And to finish it off...the Gianduja Tart with salted caramel, dark chocolate Ganache, and Hazelnut Dragees, and a Frozen Chocolate Souffle with Honey, Dark Chocolate Granati, and candied Orange. Absolutely delectable. All we can say is plan your trip into Scott’s Addition and have your reservation in hand. It is truly a memorable and wonderful experience. Next time we plan a champagne and caviar brunch in the bar area. Why not???

What a wonderful setting for breakfast! First Watch has done it right. The food is fresh and delicious, and the decor is lovely. Start with the Chickachanga...that’s whipped eggs with natural chicken breast, chorizo, green chilies, cheddar, and Monterey Jack, onions and avocado in a flour tortilla topped with Vera Cruz sauce...Wonderful. The Chicken Chimichurri Hash with Kale is a slightly less savory dish but still plenty flavorful. The Turkey sausage gravy and biscuits rocks. Lastly..the smoked Salmon Frittata is heavenly..cooked just right. Fresh juice...great coffee..The only downside is that you may have a 15-30 minute wait..but it is worth it. I cant think of a better way to start off the day!

We came back to Isabella’s to try the entrees and what a great evening. The Pasta Pomodoro with shrimp was exceptional...just the right mixture of garlic, oil, and tomatoes. The Ravioli with Lobster was equally tasty but ooh, sooooo rich. Don’t fill up on too much app or bread...it can be dangerous. Two evenings...two great meals. We’ll be back for the Wednesday night half price Wine night.

Had the Burrito Bowl, no meat. Every time I go the food is fresh, flavorful, and fabulous.
I was told by our server at the bar, Kat that they are hiring at their Short Pump location.
That is another thing about The Daily, I really appreciate their wait staff! Kat is a new addition to their team and if you go in tell her you read about her on RRR. ✌

If you haven’t stopped by the Stratford Hills Shopping Center to sample a pizza, sandwich, salad, or breakfast at Galley Go To...the cafe/market that sits next to the original Galley...you are in for a treat. For breakfast, the Lemay omelette with a bountiful portion of smoked salmon, cream cheese, and capers, cooked to perfection is one of the best morning surprises one could have...probably one of the best omelettes in RVA...period. The Stratford Hills version is equally tasty...but the Lemay ROCKS!!!Cant wait to try the Grape pizza next.

Great service and a really different setting in the Southside. This Shrimp and Crab Seafood Nacho plate may be listed as an app, but it’s easily a meal for two. Tasty and modestly priced, Toast has a real winner with this plate...we’ll be back to try more from their new menu soon.

With VCU’s basketball season in full swing, it’s a quick walk from the Siegel Center to Edo’s Squid. The place was packed prior to the game last night, but the food was well worth the wait. The Monkfish Fra Diablo was outstanding with a big, bold sauce while the fish was cooked perfectly. The Spaghetti Karl was amazing...with the perfect combination of garlic, olive oil, and mushrooms...Priced so reasonably, we both were smiling when we received our check.

Looking for a great breakfast with a upscale atmosphere? The new Daily Kitchen in Short Pump continues the great service and food that you expect in Carytown. Cooked perfectly, the Crab Omelette with spinach was exceptional. Now you don’t have to do diner food in the West End anymore....try it this weekend.

It seems like forever since we were introduced to the wonderfull, fiery, Voodoo Shrimp at Pescado’s on China Street..well it’s lost none of it’s flavor or heat in Midlothian. Bananas and hotness that rival any app in RVA. Then, try the Mahi to balance out your taste buds. Great meal anytime!

Ok, chain restaurants are not my thing but my husband said they got great reviews so we went. It was an upscale Denny's atmosphere and food choices. Portions are large. Very family oriented on a Sunday morning. No alcohol for Bloody Mary's 😉 My crab cake benedict was much better than expected. The grilled crab cakes were mostly crab and the eggs were cooked perfectly for $10.99. My husband had the Tucan scramble which was very tasty for $9.99. The price was great and service was fast. I would go back for breakfast when not in the mood for a bloody!

The smoked dry cajun rub chicken wings were the best l have had in ages! Not fried just cooked in a rotisserie. Before they opened the owner took us on a tour and showed us the the kitchen and the huge rotisserie for their meats. We went Saturday night around 5 it was extremely busy and lots and lots of kids so this place is for family, not so much happy hour. We will try it again on a weeknight to see if it is less crazy, it is new so that has some to do with being so crowded. An hour-and-a-half wait for a table. We were lucky to find two seats at the counter in the bar area. If you like chicken wings get these you will not be disappointed!

This was our first visit at the new location. It did not disappoint in the old Miller & Rhoads building. If you are looking for a great dining experience make sure you call for reservations just to assure a table.

If you love a great happy hour this is perfect! $5 wines and a great app menu makes this a must from 3 to 6pm. We got there at 4pm and the bar was rocking! The flights are a great way to test out what they have. I fell in love with the Chardonnay they had which ended in a slight taste of butterscotch. 😍
I had to go back and get it by the glass the next time.

If you are looking for a terrific happy hour during the week, a great brunch on the weekends, or a seafood dinner in a relaxed atmosphere on the Southside, Latitude Seafood Company is an exceptional choice. For brunch, start with the Oscar Omelette, with crab, asparagus, and hollandaise cooked perfectly. It rates as one of the best we have ever had.
We love the Hellfire shrimp app which frequently is a special at Happy Hour. It has a great balance of seasoning and heat on a bed of slaw. The combination is perfect.
Now to totally top it off, the Baileys Infused Creme Brûlée French Toast is over the top. Very unexpected, it incorporates Patron Citronage, key lime zest batter, whipped cream and mint. This is the BOMB. Outstanding brunch...we will be back.
