I have had the good fortune to encounter and become close to people of myriad faiths and cultural backgrounds. My own extended family has roots that reach all over Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America. One thing you'll find in almost every culture is the concept of charms, amulets, and talismans-- wherever there are people, there are treasured objects into which we may concentrate our hopes and wishes for ourselves and each other. The mezuzah in the doorway of your home, the glass boncuk eye to ward off evil, the four-leaf-clover in your pocket, the holy medal around your neck. These objects--even when made of the humblest materials-- make thoughtful, loving gifts, because they are essentially positive energy made into tangible, share-able objects.

Yay! Thanks for the likes, all! Tonight I'll be focusing on getting some pictures up in the Homewares album, so be sure to check back and see what I've made!

For the new folks, welcome to The Hammered Oyster! The purpose of this page is to introduce my Etsy shop, which will specialize in hand-made, one-of-a-kind jewelry, hair adornments, and homewares, to the Facebook community. I hope to be able to announce a soft opening by the end of January 2013. For now, I will be posting some examples of my work here, as a teaser of sorts. As the name of my shop suggests, I have a special place in my heart for pearls and rustic, hand-worked metals, but you can also expect to see beach glass, leather, and vintage elements mixed into my designs. My jewelry and trinkets are designed to translate the warm, beachy-chic vibe of my upbringing into something that can be worn and taken wherever the wearer goes. They are entirely handmade from materials I've collected and saved until the designs presented themselves to me.

Please note: tool marks, natural oxidation of the metals, and slight variations in color and size should be expected. I never make the exact same piece twice, but I can recreate the spirit of any piece so that you will get a similar effect in a piece only you will own. And of course, should you need a set of matched pieces for bridesmaids, etc., you can always contact me and we can come up with something together.

Peacock feather fascinators. Can be made with a pin, comb, clip, or headband for easy accessorizing. These headbands were an adorable and superquick way to help my daughter and niece get fancy for a special dinner-- we just parted their long hair on the side, slicked it back into a low bun and slid the headbands on top. Instant glamour!
