Farm to School Means More to Us

At Republic School District, Farm to School means so much more than serving a meal. It means knowing where our food comes from, supporting the farmers and ranchers in our own community, and giving our students fresh, quality food we can feel good about serving.

We are especially proud of our local beef program. When you see beef on our school menu, it is fresh beef raised right here locally. Whether we're making hamburgers, tacos, chili, spaghetti, beef stew, cheeseburger mac, or another student favorite, that beef has a connection to the community our students call home.

Working with local producers like RC Farms and the O’Brien family allows us to bring the farm and the cafeteria together. Our students aren't just learning about Farm to School—they are eating Farm to School.

There is something pretty special about being able to tell a student, “The beef in your lunch today was raised right here in our area.” It helps kids understand that food doesn't simply come from a grocery store or arrive on a delivery truck. Behind their meal are real farmers and ranchers caring for animals, working the land, and supporting our community.

For us, Farm to School is about good food, local relationships, supporting agriculture, and teaching our students where their food comes from.

We are incredibly thankful for the local farmers and ranchers who make this possible.

Raised locally. Prepared in our kitchen. Served to our students. ❤️

That is what Farm to School means to us.

🍎 Trying New Foods Starts With All of Us! 🥕🐯

We know that not every meal served at school will be every child’s favorite and that’s okay! Kids are still learning what they like, and sometimes it takes trying a food several times before they decide they enjoy it.

We encourage families to talk positively about school meals and encourage your child to take a taste and try something new. When children are introduced to a variety of foods at home and at school, they become more comfortable trying different flavors, fruits, vegetables, and meals.

You might be surprised today’s “I don’t like that!” could become tomorrow’s “Can I have that again?” 😊

🍎 Learning, Laughing & Cooking in Spokane! 🍴

On August 11th, Delores, Lacey & Wendy had the opportunity to attend a fun and informative food training event in Spokane!

We spent the day learning, cooking, and getting hands-on experience creating new recipes and fresh ideas that we’re excited to bring back and try with our students this coming school year. 🥗🌮🍎

It was a great day of teamwork, good food, lots of laughs, and learning new ways to make our school meals even better.

🐯 We can’t wait to see what our students think of some of our new creations!

As another school year comes to a close, we'd like to take a moment to celebrate what our amazing Child Nutrition team accomplished!

This year we proudly served 30,577 breakfasts and 31,431 lunches to our students. That's a total of 62,008 meals prepared and served with care!

Every breakfast and lunch was an opportunity to fuel learning, support growing minds and bodies, and share a smile with the students we serve. We are grateful for the opportunity to be part of their school day and appreciate the support of our families, staff, and community throughout the year.

Thank you for allowing us to do what we love. We hope everyone has a safe, fun, and relaxing summer, and we can't wait to welcome our Tigers back for another great year!
