Let’s support a local restaurant that really supports Republic.
Huey Magoo’s in Republic is co-owned by two local families: the Phelps family, who are always showing up for our community and schools, and the Tillman family.
Here’s my backstory with the Tillmans:
Back in 2020 I was chasing my dream of opening my own restaurant. I kept driving past the old “Jail Cakes” building sitting empty. I had no money — just a business AmEx with a $10K limit.
I reached out to the realtor and got a meeting with James Tillman, who owned the property at the time. I laid it all out: no financial backing, no cash in the bank, just a plan. I told him I’d need time to get licensing, vendors, and utilities set up, because I could only invest a little each month.
James took a chance on me. He gave me a 3-year lease that didn’t start until September 2020, but handed me the keys in May. No rent during that time. He even said if I got open before September, that was on me — he still wouldn’t expect a dime until then.
Without James Tillman taking that risk, there never would have been a RepMo Burger Co. And there wouldn’t be Campfire Barbecue today.
Right now Huey Magoo’s is dealing with tough road construction hurting traffic. If you’ve loved the food I’ve been blessed to serve you these past 6 years, please go support them. Grab some amazing chicken tenders… and don’t skip the Spicy Magoo’s sauce. I could drink that stuff. 🤤
Let’s show up for the people who show up for us.
