Kiki update!!

It’s been awhile since the last update. Kiki has been doing really well. She hasn’t had a major coughing fit since the last time we tried to feed her by mouth. Her energy has been great, she’s acting like nothing is wrong. She sees her vet again on Monday (11/13) for another endoscopy. We’re really hopeful for good news.

Kiki update!

Kiki’s follow up this week went well, I think. They were able to open the stricture a little more, and based on what they saw, her body is doing the things it needs to do to get past this. They still don’t know the cause of what’s happening in her esophagus. But it’s healing. So we’re calling that a win.

She is healing more slowly than the doctors would like to see, and so we’re spacing the the follow ups out a bit more. Once every two weeks, instead of weekly. The hope is we’ll see more progress if we give her more time. And it gives us a bit more breathing room to handle the financial side of things.

Kiki update!! Still being the toughest pup ever 💚🐶

Kiki’s endoscopy procedure went well. They were able to get the camera all the way down to her stomach. Which was the best case scenario all things considered.

The information we learned from the procedure is not the best. Her esophagus is as inflamed as the doctor in Reno reported. There is an area of stricture that they were able to ballon. Approximately 9cm long, basically in front of her heart. They took a pinch biopsy of that area. They are still NOT thinking cancer. But SOMETHING is irritating her entire esophagus.

They are installing a “G-tube” feeding tube. It goes in her side (below the rib cage), and bypasses the esophagus entirely. She’ll have that for at least a month. Even if her esophagus heals enough to continue eating on her own sooner, the way the incision heals requires the tube be in place at least a month before it can be safely removed.

The tube is a much larger diameter than the NG tube, so clogging shouldn’t be an issue.

She is still in good spirits. And overall healthy, despite the inflammation.

None of this is cheap. And we’re going to have to make some big, scary, financial decisions and sacrifices real soon.

Kiki had a bit of a setback last night, but she’s still pushing through it all! Jim and Des and most of all Kiki need any help anyone can provide. Please share their story 💚💚💚

I honestly don’t know if this campaign has any drive left in it. You all have given so much already. And we are beyond grateful.

Kiki had what appears to be a relapse last night and is back in the hospital. For now she’s in Reno, but the hospital here is closed Monday and Tuesday. If she’s not able to come home by Sunday night, we may have to go back to Sacramento.

As of last night they want to keep her for 24-48 hours. That could change depending on her condition. That estimate alone required a $7200 deposit.

I’ve been selling off my collection of LPs to pay down the existing debt, but it’s slow going.

We’re feeling defeated and quite honestly, desperate.

Kiki is back home! Take a second to read about her journey and consider donating to help out with her bills 💚💚💚

I want to take a moment to talk about Kiki’s doctor and her team at Vista Veterinary Specialists. Dr. Fetner is a critical care specialist. Meaning she sees the worst of the worst. She cares for the animals whose chances of survival are the lowest. She deals with heavy loss everyday.

She stayed late, came in on her days off, and invested so much time and energy in to Kiki’s care. Above and beyond doesn’t even scratch the surface.

She was supposed to transfer Kiki’s case to another doctor Thursday morning. She could have just done her job, handed the files over and put it all behind her. But she kept the case. Worked long hours, sacrificing her free time, to make sure Kiki had the best shot at coming home.

Her team were amazing. They truly cared about Kiki’s journey. They sent video clips, and photos to the doctor in the rare moments she actually left the building. “Does this look normal?” “We’re worried about her breathing. Does she look OK?”

Dr. Fetner is my hero. She is the only reason I was able to function at all last week. She treated Kiki as if she were her own. I knew there was no better, or safer place for Kiki to be.

She and her team saved Kiki’s life.

(She’s just so happy to be home. ❤️❤️)
